A strange feeling.

edited February 2011 in Buddhism Basics
I had some feeling, I was focused and felt down through my trachea, I could feel and hear the heart beat against my left lung as I inhaled, and I could hear it push against the heart sac. Almost I was so focused I could visual it from the sound and feeling of it, crystal clear.
And I was completely detached from the body beyond this.

Namaste, I not sure what I'm asking, or if I am.
Just saying, I suppose.

  • Hello.

One pointed concentration causes all kind of weird experiences..
Personally i find it bad practice but sure feels good :).

    Much Metta.
  • Bad practice, why would you say that?

And what kind of weird experiences? To me, I thought it was feeling that, that you are alive, that nothing can take that away from you. That being alive is a wonderful thing, though things we don't like happen, well, you're still alive.
  • I have become distracted by my own heartbeat before, or pulse. I would not name it as 'bad practice' to have become focused on such a thing, but to accept it happened and let it go as that moment does not exist anymore. Ii is a faded moment of the past that no longer exists.

I don't know why, but I have always disliked the sensation of my own heartbeat or pulse. It is irrational but it is what it is. When it distracts me in meditation I am encouraged to focus harder and see it as a learning curve.

The buddha stated that we should not see any sensation, smell, taste, sound etc as pleasurable or disgusting. The middle way once again comes to mind.
  • Any time I used to hear my heartbeat, I'd have the irrational fear that it might stop beating.
  • i'm more concerned when i can't feel my heartbeat!! (joke)

Just keep meditating, Bodhgaya. Take it as a transitory phenomenon, and stay focussed on your practice.
It means you were able to silence your mind enough that you could sense some of your internal organs. But you weren't able to silence the mind enough to avoid being distracted by your heartbeat. ;)
    Keep on keepin' on.
