Are there any benefits from drinking tea? Simple question. :)

Comments

  • Depends on the tea. Though tea can be a carcinogen if the tea bag is left in the tea for x amount of time.
Tea can fight virus. Tea can fight aids. Tea can give you a caffeine high. Tea can raise your metabolism.

    Meow.
  • And recently an elderly woman in my country got seriously ill from drinking too much green tea :)

Eh, depends which medical journal you're reading and what today's date is. :p
  • Yeah studies funded by nestle show that chocolate is good for the health.

If you read about antioxidants Green tea is loaded with them. Like blueberries. Consider 4000 years of Chinese medicinal reccos and GREEN tea way is up there baby! I like to avoid the caffeine though.

Chocolate? YES! Significant positive health benefits from it's high levels of phenethylamine; though high calories and fat make it bad for the sedentary lifestylist.

BTW, Cheap, popular chocolates (like Nestles?) do not have enough cocoa in them. You must have 80% cocoa or higher to get the benefits of the phenethylamine.

Yes, 85% cacao and up is good for headaches, migraines. I've tried it (my doc recommended it), and it works.

Coffee is also good against migraines, but ONLY if you don't drink it regularly, so your body doesn't get accustomed to it. It's a great medicine for the occasional morning/early afternoon headache. (If you take it at night it'll prob'ly keep you awake.)

Isn't green tea good for the heart? There's gotta be more info on green tea, other than "antioxidants".
    Tea can fight aids.
Tai, you've gotta give us some documentation for this claim. This is breakthrough info, if true.

Green tea is said to help guard against heart disease, lower cholesterol, prevent diabetes, and stave off dementia. But most results have only been documented in the laboratory. In the East, where green tea is part of the daily diet, the lowered incidence of heart disease and the low cholesterol could also be the result of other dietary and lifestyle factors.

Here's the scoop on white tea:

High in polyphenols, has the highest anti-oxidant content of any tea.
Contains small amts. of fluoride that strengthens teeth.

Reduces: atherosclerotic plaques (damage to arteries due to cholesterol), carcinogens, risk of stroke, heart failure, cancer and diabetes. Protects skin from damage by UV light, natural anti-viral and anti-bacterial, kills the bacteria that cause dental plaque and tooth decay.
  • I love tea. I have a some green tea every schoolday at 1:00 and I have noticed some changes but there's not enough caffiene in it to make a difference for me, sadly. I also have some black tea with dinner a couple times a week.
  • Yeah I was just wisecracking with Nestle and chocolate. Though I wouldn't be surprised if funding didn't influence research. Its a problem again of the media as a link to science. Blowing a stories weakly significant result into a blanket statement.
  • studies weakly significant result
