Dorje Shugden

edited March 2011 in Buddhism Basics
Hey
Lately I have come up on lots of information of the Dalia Lama
and Dorje shugden. I was just wondering if anyone could explain this
dispute for me? I have been very confused by what I have been reading
and watching.
Thank you.

  • try searching shugden on this forum to get some information. for a discussion stay tuned.
  • ok thank you I have been confused. Not really
looking for a debate I guess more of what the issue is
from both sides. I will try and look it up!
If its an issue should I delete this post? I am not
    trying to stir things up
  • I'm not assuming you are trying to cause trouble. But as you can see for yourself how these discussions have gone in the past. I'm not the dorje shugden police! :buck:

At least for me, this video summed up the matter well:

I was in a long discussion on this subject on another forum and saw how in the process some people left the board due to the problems it created and to hurt feelings, arguments, etc. I was upset over it as well, and then my teacher had a long discussion with me over not judging others. I backed away from it and after awhile I got over being upset with the Dalai Lama and will now be seeing him in person in May. I would suggest that it isn't worth getting into, but if you do remember, that it is due to the karma of all involved, those getting hurt and those banning the Shugdens. But I do strongly suggest that this issue not be covered here.
  • @Thao, I second that.

I can only disagree with the teacher. Imo, there was right discernment about the matter. However, practise was not sufficient to view the unwholesomeness of the matter with equinimity.

If a human being murders another human being, we must be able to discern that action is wrong. However, our mind need not get upset about it. Our mind should have equinimity.

In short, any persecution of another religion is wrong according to Buddha-Dhamma.

  • ok sorry! im done I was just curious I can't even
remember where I first read this Thanks for the input
I know to do more research before posting! I didn't
mean to put up a hot button issue.
