Jobs jobs jobs...

I don't know what I want as a job.

Personally, I want to have a job that involves spirituality/Buddhism in some way, or a job for a great cause.

Like, I wanted to be a professor and teach Religious Studies, but I really don't want to college for 8+ years. I'm not too interesting in being a doctor of any kind. I really don't know what I want to be. :( Could one make a decent living off of teaching Tai-Chi, meditation, or something? Meeeh...

Maybe a High School teacher of Religious Studies?

I don't know. High Schoolers can be such brats.
  • You don't have to look so far in the future, focus on now. I think careers have a way of falling into place... I know so many people who work completely outside of their college degree or degrees. I'd like to be a professor some day, but I haven't had many professors who wanted to be a professor when they were my age it just sort of happens.

    Agreed!
Just try to build your skills and definitely try to live in the now.

I agree about not worrying about it much now. When you get into college and start trying different disciplines, chances are you'll find something that speaks to you. Ask us after your freshman year in college, if you still need to at that point. ;)

Can anyone give me an answer to the actual OP? :(
  • Define "decent living"

I would start looking into non-profits. They need all sorts of people in many different professions to keep them moving.

    I'll try my best

That's the only question there: The answer is yes... well sort of, define decent... You could survive off that income sure.

If you want to go further in-depth with the question and have someone tell you what you should be when you grow up... well don't. It is important you find something meaningful to yourself.

MG, we've already answered this question for you, the last time you posted a thread on this subject. But Jason is right; non-profits need all kinds of people. Get yourself some administrative skills, or maybe you could be a grant-writer; you like to write, don't you? You could write grants for Buddhist non-profits or for enviro or social-change non-profits, whatever you like. Grantwriters make good money. You could also teach Comparative Religion in community colleges (2-yr. institutions, as opposed to 4-year college/universities, that require a PhD).

Full-Time High School student then a Full-Time College student.
If you treat these like jobs, you'll get one (a career) you actually want to work at in the future because you'll have so many opportunities.

    Step by step.
