Who said you have to suffer? The point is to alleviate suffering, and that you should do with the whole of your being. Instead of being a burden, it should be an honor, a blessing, to be able to help others. Work on seeing that we're all the same, see what you are, and that will remove the illusion of being separate.
  • well i couldn't find it so Ill tell it best to my memory. This is a true story . There were 4 monks living in a cave. One of these monks were not to bright but they let him stay because of compashion. One day there were theifs on the run trying to find a place to hide. They came to the cave were the monks lived. They wanted to kill the monks so they couldn't rat on them. The head monk talked with them and got them to only want to kill one as a warning to the rest. They told the head monk to choose one of the monks to be killed. He said I can't choose. I love them and my self all equally. The theifs were astounded and decided to let them all live. One of the thieves became a monk even.

I told this story very poorly due to not have a good memory on it but it should give you an idea.

For instance, living simply, within your means, healthily and happily. Living on vegetarian instead of causing direct or indirect suffering to animals.
  • Pretty obvious I was very confused about this point. Thank you all for taking the time to comment.

Gizmo, maybe you're thinking about the meditation technique where you breathe in others' suffering, and then breathe it out? And there is a practice where you take on others' suffering, but it's an advanced practice.
