I've family there, and got interested in traveling after starting to make art.
Which bothers me, whenever I hear it I get an itch in the back of my mind like I should know what they are saying, but I can't

Years ago, when I was a mechanic, I worked for a shop foremen whose grandparents had all come to the US from Sicily. When he wanted to know if I had finished repairing a car, he would ask "Feex-a-feex?" He would also sometimes substitute Daglia d'oro espresso for the regular coffee in the coffee machine, and referred to it as "Daglia Dago".
My brother-in-law's mother came from Foggio. His use of the dialect is usually humorously obscene, so I won't repeat anything I learned from him.
Mostly I stick to butchering Norwegian and Spanish. So far, Italian has been safe from my depredations.
