April Fools?

Hi All,

This seems like a beginner type of question...so I hope that the "Buddhism for Beginners" section is the right place...

I was wondering what people here think about this: Should Buddhists celebrate "April Fools"?

Is it against the precept of lying? Is it okay to lie if it is part of a prank (with the intention of telling the truth afterwards or knowing that it is a matter of time for the prank victim to figure it out)?

I have my opinion, but curious to see what others say.

Metta,

Guy

Guy -- The matter is clearly discussed in the April Fool's Day Sutra. In Buddhism, every day is April Fools' Day.

I try to do so in a harmless (or at least minimally harmful) way.

Yeah, I also take a "Golden Rule" approach to this.

  • Live life and smile, laugh! It's funny to fool people and even if someone fools you. Laughter is a spice of life.
  • Oh don't worry I laugh! Mostly at myself because I tend to trip a lot

    Nice one @genkaku
  • If the prank has no lies involved and doesn't make anybody suffer, then it would be kosher, however, tell me an april fools day prank that fits that category?

    The spaghetti harvest BBC prank....

The lie was confessed, and it still stands, in UK TV history, as possibly the best prank ever imagined.
