No centers in Virginia Beach! None!

I just moved here from NC and I've noticed there's absolutely nothing around here for buddhist.
Although there were some monks holding meetings in their home, but the neighbors complained about all the cars parked along the streets. The monks were sued and sent to court regarding that matter.
They were let off, and have also found a commercial building just 5 miles up my street. Hopefully the monks will allow me to meet with them!

Does anyone know of anything in Virginia Beach??

You don't say what sort of Buddhism interests you. Try the great god Google using Virginia Beach and the type of Buddhism you want.
  • Sometimes colleges will invite Buddhist speakers to come. If you can't find anything near home, check the college websites in your area to see who is visiting for a public speaking. I know it's not the same, but it's better than nothing.

I found a few. I'm not sure if they're what you're looking for.

  • Welcome to Virginia (outside of Northern Virginia, which is a different state, if not a different universe). If you don't live in DC or Charlottesville, you're pretty much on your own. Try SW Virginia if you think Tidewater is bad...

I just Googled "Virginia Beach Buddhist Centers" and over 4 listings came up. There's a Vajrayogini Center (Tibetan Buddhism), and Zen Ctr., and others. Did you try doing any research online, Hawkins? I recommend it. Google is guaranteed to have more info than we would.

I lot of the websites are just promoting meetings people have at their homes. I've emailed a few. They're rather small groups - but I feel odd going to someones home where it's normally a friend gathering.
I've found one place closer to Norfolk. I might give them a try, but it's Kadampa, and I'm into zen.
Mountains - Charlottesville seems to have many areas lol.
  • Indeed - C'ville has more per capita than about anyplace I've seen. Too bad it's a two-plus hour drive :(

The Dong Hung Buddhist temple is just 3 miles away. I believe they focus on zen. Thanks!
