But rationalist critics led campaigns against him,
calling him a charlatan and his miracles fake. Several
news reports alleged that he sexually abused devotees —
accusations
he denied as vilification campaigns.

This was confirmed by BBC.

Did somebody get his watch? I wonder if he's giving away lots of them.

When people left for good, let it be! Both yourself, respected Sai Baba and his followers would be grateful and thankful. The world will be in harmony. So called "Rest in Peace", not only for the dead, but also the living as well! Dun you conceptualized likewise!

    so this guy did miracles?

    It seems like it....

Amongst the 'Sai Stories' told by devotees are some very strange stories. For example: Knowing that every Rolex watch has its exclusive serial number, an Australian visitor asked the swami to materialise one for him. Sai Baba obliged with a wave of his hand. On his return the serial number enabled the Australian to identify where the watch had been purchased. He asked the proprietor if he remembered who bought it. The owner remembered the occasion well. He could hardly forget the unusual orange clad Indian gentleman with strange fuzzy hair.

The shop owner was a meticulous man who kept accurate sales records that gave not only the day of purchase but the time as well. Together they checked the records. It corresponded exactly with the time and day that Sai Baba had materialised the Rolex. Sai Baba had been in two places at the same time!

EDIT: There are many "Sai Stories" like this on the net, but I prefer to remain agnostic about the possibility of such miracles. I see myself as "not qualified" to say one way or the other.
  • Seriously? You really believe being Enlightened means being able to pull Rolex watches out of thin air? Magician tricks like palming fake holy ash and producing fake jewelry are the oldest tricks in the fake holy man book, and make all Eastern religions look bad. There's a difference between being open minded and throwing out all sense.

Now they'll build a shrine to him, and the fortune he accumulated will be fought over by his disciples, and nothing will have changed. Holy men like this come and go.
  • Unfortunately, this man is not holy.
    He sexually molested children.
The story was in a BBC documentary.
  • In 2004, in the UK and internationally, the BBC aired a documentary titled The Secret Swami, in its series 'The World Uncovered'.[136] One central theme of the BBC documentary was Alaya Rahm's sexual abuse allegations against Sathya Sai Baba.[132] The documentary interviewed him together with Mark Roche, who had devoted 25 years of his life since 1969 to the movement and alleged abuse by him.[132] A spokesman for the BBC told Asian Voice that the documentary had gone to great lengths to be balanced and fair, and that the story was one of a crisis and ultimately a betrayal of faith.[137]
  • Why is this worth reading/talking about?

"His charitable trusts run schools, hospitals, colleges, stadia and a planetarium, as well as a piped-drinking-water project serving more than 750 villages in the surrounding areas."

Holy is just a label used by people who desire the creation of pedestals... Sai spent much of his life dedicated to helpfulness and charity for his community. If he made mistakes, he made them. Maybe we can simply hope for a loving resolution of whatever suffering he might have caused, and respect the compassion he gave to others.
  • Pretend to be a holy man.
Accummulate great wealth from your followers who
    think you are god.
Sexually abuse children of your devout followers.
Out of every billion I accumulate, I spend 1 million
    on charity.
    Pretty good returns.
    I forgive him.
But his karma will be his punishment.
  • Sounds similar to that guy Osho. I wonder when Supereme Master Ching Hai is going run out of her good karma?

but Buddha Gautama was able to create water and fire out of thin air!

...that was half serious, but creating potable water on demand can be quite useful.
