Bhikkhu Bodhi lectures...

edited May 2011 in Buddhism Basics
Has anyone listened to his "The Buddha’s Teaching As It Is" series of lectures? I have been trying to work my way through them and they're very interesting, but also some of the concepts don't seem to fit in with what I have read or heard in my admittedly short time in the practice of Buddhism. The more I listen, the more I understand, but my first experience in trying to learn the Path was hanging around E-Sangha, but they were kind of sporadic and not for accepting others opinions that contradicted theirs.

  • Is that the series where he goes through his book In The Buddha's Words?
  • Not sure. I know it was a series of lectures he did back in the early 80's...

I listened to all of those, and they were good at the time. I think he was being quite literal with some things though that may not have been meant that way. Still I would recommend them!

Interpretations of Buddhism are quite diverse. So Bhikkhu Bodhi may not always concur with other teachers & views.

I thought the ones on the Eightfold Path and the Four Noble Truths were awesome. I have a bit of a problem understanding how if the human race has only been civilized around 10,000 years there could have been multiple times when the Darhma was not known and multiple Buddhas to discover it.
