Talking in circles

Is this forum just a form of talking entanglement? People reciting what they've read on paper? Because this is one way to NOT progress in Buddhism? Sure talking about personal experiences is all good n everything, but wouldn't just be more ego boostin and debating?

Moe frontin talk smack, not enuff hustlin n dealin know wat im sayin?

  • I think it all depends on how one interacts, and on one's mindset. I've learned a lot here, and have been able to help a few people. And I'm more judicious about how much time I spend here, more selective about where/how I contribute.

I don't think this forum is any more entangling than any other forum, perhaps its less so. The point as I see it is that it is a big ego magnet, as in, we put our opinions down and they get questioned or praised or attacked and instantly we react. And we all know what that reaction does.

There is a verse that I remember approximately as:

    Wishing to entice the blind,
The Buddha has playfully let words
    Escape his golden mouth.
Heaven and earth have ever since
    Been filled with entangling briars.

I think the key word is "playfully."

  • This forum is a trap homeboys...

For homeboys that already found teachers and fellow practitioners in real life it's probably okay. But for homies who are attached to this forum it's going to hinder your progress!

    TURNING BACK IS THE SHORE!!!!!

    Know wat im sayin?
  • Yes I always learnt much more when I went to the monasteries
  • Which school are you with? When get indepth teaching from proper, you realise it's serious buziness! Samsara is pretty scary, when you learn about the negative consequences you can't see right now!
  • Actually I should have said 'when I switched off the forums'- that may have had to do with the intellect leading though. Who knows.

I am with Zen Buddhism, @NotaGansta. And yes, serious, I guess.

Samsara is the world stuck in greed, hatred, delusion and ignorance, and perhaps we will have to pay its price.

    Namo Amitabha Buddha.
