I just want to see if anyone cannot resist replying to this post, and where the discussion leads.

So, you speak of CURIOSITY? You just wanted to see "if anyone cannot resist replying to this post, and where the discussion leads?"

    Well, I'm curious, too.

Let me begin: CURIOSITY IS A GOOD THING, AND NOT AT ALL UNBUDDHALIKE.
Let the Pathway Ahead of Thee Be Peaceful,
And Let Thy Radiant Face Brighten the Path of All Whom Thou Passest by,
Thy Ways Bliss-Filled, Let Thy Very Name Be Bliss!

    Indeed.

What is the object of a thread that has no subject?
  • edited January 2006
Probably a split infinitive? Or a past subjunctive - that's usually the answer!

To Be or To NOT Be, That is how we try to obliquely speak now.

The rabbit tried to completely hide from the hunter, rather than:
The rabbit ran to hide completely from the hunter.

The second one is better picture language, in that the act of hiding is highlighted, rather than the adverbial modifier. If someone were to come after me with a gun, I'd try to hide and hide and hide as completely as possible, but wouldn't think I'd be able to finish the job completely until the man was arrested by the police.

Me likes picture language better than fragmented process language.

    This thread has no subject,
But does it have an objective?

I guess I'm thinking "no attainment and nothing to attain." And this is "no discussion and nothing to discuss." :tongue2:

What I'm wondering is . . . is "nothing" the subject of the thread. Or is this just a thread with no subject?

    Sorry, too much coffee.

Can we talk about something else now? :)

O.K., Nirvana, I'm glad you don't know what "talking points about" means. I mean, at first I thought maybe you speak English as a 2nd language, then I saw you are living in S.C.(which your version of English may be a little "different" than everyone else. ;) ) Surely, no offense intended. I live in Florida so I know how that goes. But I digress. Then I was fearful that I'm an idiot. (highly possible) :wavey:

O.K. Want to talk about my leather coat? It only occurred to me after I was wearing it that it used to belong to a cow. Do you guys think it's funny that I wear it to Zen meditation? I keep feeling paranoid about it and thinking people are looking at me. I'm afraid someone may throw blood on me.:eekblue: I'm hoping he died of natural causes. Oh, God help me. I love that coat!

Sorry I'm off topic. No wait. . . this thread has no subject. But I was talking about something. So that must mean I am off topic.

If a thread has no subject, does that not predicate that there is no object either?

Having neither subject nor object, can it be said to exist, posts notwithstanding?
