Leaving the known for the unknown

edited June 2011 in General Banter
I've been seriously considering changing the life I've been living to living in a monastery. How do I go about doing that?

Try the internet. Make inquiries. Pay a visit. Make up your mind.

And as a side note, you might remember that, as we pass from moment to moment, everyone is always moving from the known to the unknown. Since we have all survived thus far, I think we can reasonably deduce that the "unknown" is not all that extraordinary...although realizing and actualizing this fact is pretty rare.
  • Other members have asked about how to join a monastery. Turns out that in the West, many of them have waiting lists.
  • Just be sure you're not looking for an escape. Trying to get away from something is just another name for attachment (to something that doesn't exist, except in your mind - the monastic life). Living in the moment means living in the moment where you are and what you're doing right now. It doesn't mean trying to get away from what's happening at this moment :)

Still, if you want to live a monastic life I think that's a very admirable thing to do if you can swing it.
