Simplified Buddhist Era

I was thinking that sometimes it is difficult to keep track of what year of the Buddhist Era I'm in (knowing basically no other buddhist in my area).
...so I came up with a simplification:

if this is 2011 of the common era, we are in the year 2551 of the simplified buddhist era. the difference is +540 exactly.

anyon think this is a good idea?

I'm not entirely clear what difference it makes. Are you any more or less a Buddhist or is Buddhism any more or less useful because we designate a year in a particular way?

It was of interest to me when I was traveling in/living in Thailand when I would wonder about the age of particular temples and historic events.
