IRT Deadliest roads

edited June 2011 in General Banter
I was watching irt deadliest roads and saw they had to deliver two statues of the goddess Kali to a mountain monastery. But I can find no reference to Kali in my online research. Any thoughts why a Hindu goddess would be delivered to the monastery?

IDK, maybe as an excuse to have the drivers go on a dangerous road for our enjoyment? Maybe there's a legit reason, I just never liked that show much because they put the drivers in genuinly dangerous situations and I'm sceptical about the reasons an entertainment show has in delivering a payload.
  • I understand what your saying about the show and everything. But the question is not about the show or the drivers but about the Hindu goddess being used in a Buddhist ceremony.
The Buddhist monks were very adamant that if there was even a scratch on the statue it could not be used in the ceremony.
But thank you for your response Person :)
  • Never mind I think I found my answer:

Kalpa is a small town located in the Sutlej River Valley, above Recong Peo in the Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh, Northern India, in the Indian Himalaya. Inhabited by Kinnauri people. The local inhabitants follow a syncretism of Hinduism and Buddhism, and many temples in Kalpa are dedicated to both Hindu and Buddhist gods & goddesses.

    I agree!
    It's definitely for Entertainment!
  • Still wasn't a question about the show. It was about the statue. There is nothing on tv that isn't entertainment.
  • I saw that show too. There was definitely a Hindu element to the shrine/monastery they were delivering the statue to,
  • The Kali ceremony in kalpa is a ceremony to honor women, said to be like mothers day. It is believed that the goddess Kali resides in the mountains there.
It took awhile but info is coming more easily once I found the name of the town. But thank you everyone for taking the time to read the post and to post your opinions.
