While I do not follow the Zen tradition, I really liked, "Buddhism Is Not What You Think" by Steve Hagen (Dharma heir of Dainin Katagiri-roshi).
  • 'Hardcore Zen' by Brad Warner.

I like the old timers -- Huang Po, Rinzai, Hui Neng, Hui Hai, Layman P'ang, Ikkyu and others. "Swampland Flowers: The Letters and Lectures of Zen Master Ta Hui" consists of letters and lectures delivered largely to laymen ... without lowering the banner.

My own book, "Answer Your Love Letters: Footnotes to a Zen Practice" is probably not quite Zen enough. :)

    One I like is:

    “The Diamond Sutra
Transforming the way we perceive the world”

    A comment from Mu Soeng.
    Wisdom Publications, Boston.

But there are many nice books and you have to find out for yourself which ones appeal to you.
