Earthquake on the east coast of the US!

MountainsMountains Veteran
edited August 2011 in General Banter
Just eating lunch at my favorite bistro when the building started bouncing up and down! Very minor here in Roanoke, but apparently it did a good bit of shaking in Washington and Richmond, both of which are closer to the epicenter than we are down here in the mountains. Apparently it was felt as far away as Ottawa, Ontario and parts of South Carolina. That's a *big* area! Just reported upgraded to a 6.0 on the Richter scale.

Wild...

Very mild, but noticeable, and brief here in western Mass.
  • I heard a radio report about it, and it sounded like it did some serious damage around the epicenter. Did I hear correctly that it was at least 8.0? If so, that's very major! Keep us updated, Mts.
  • No, last I read on the USGS web site said 5.8
