Any teachers out there

Do we have any forum users that are buddhist teachers in the formal sense? Does anybody know of any teachers from any sects, that might be willing to come on once a day (or something like that) and answer questions? I am not discounting the helpfulness of everybody's views, but would love to have somebody that is skilled in working to the strengths of individuals (maybe that isn't possible online)?

The One who asks questions on Life, Buddhism Dharma or the Way, already holds all the answers within!
  • This isn't a philosophical question, it is a pragmatic one.

Buddhist teachers (and good teachers everywhere) generally prepare formal lessons/lectures and engage in study groups where all is face-to-face with other people, not generally a drop-in internet situation.
However, Lama Surya Das has a very nice website with an "ask the lama" internet feature you might find helpful:

  • @aura I kind of assumed that it was a bit of a stretch online. Thanks for the link, I will check it out.

@Dazzle Thank you for your link. On first glance, their page seems to have some nice tools.

  • I am new to this site. I am an American zen priest working on establishing a zen center in Hawaii. I plan on visiting this site often. And while I may not be able to log on every day I can attempt to answer questions and join in discussions when I can. Bowing, Shodo Jishin

As posted on the finding-a-teacher thread, it would be nice if the administrators could give Shodo his own ask-a-teacher category. Let's see if they're amenable.

Before anyone is sold they should read this topic there, particularly the post by Stephanie: http://www.treeleaf.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=4319.

Stephanie aptly notes that,"Treeleaf is a place where questions come to die."

That's an awful idea, IMO, 'teachers' via title or priesthood are not the best idea, IMO.

    Best wishes,

This is a good example of the potential for misplacement/mistake for the title teacher I think.

If ordained and other members wish to participate, they can participate on their own terms, and if any should think more highly of one or another because of credentials, personality, smell or words :vimp: then that's also fine I think and more characteristic of an open, sharing, learning, co-opted community.
