Khensur Rinpoche (1941 - 2011)

edited September 2011 in Buddhism Basics
I have just received news that one of the FPMT's foremost teachers, Khensur Rinpoche Geshe Lhundrup Rigsel, has died. According to the Tibetan tradition, we say he has released his consciousness from his current body.

I have personally benefitted from Khensur Rinpoche's teachings. I consider him one of my teachers. Please allow me to indulge in sharing one story about his actions with you.

It was Vesak a few years back. We held a Vesak festival for the public, located just beside a nursing home and hospice. I think it was about 2pm and he was giving blessings to people who came to take part in the festival. As usual, there would be many people around him receiving blessings and offering cash in return, which were placed in envelopes. When the blessing session was over for the day, he placed all the envelopes in a shopping bag and carried it off. We were all wondering where he was going, since we were expecting to drive him back to his hotel room to rest for the day before the empowerment ceremony at night.

It was only after we followed him did we realize that he took all the monetary offerings and gave them to the home and hospice next door, with instructions that they use the donations to buy necessities and medicines for the residents.

It floored me. Never would I expect such generosity and compassion from such a man.

I pray for his swift return. We all need such teachers around.

    Amen !
  • My kind of Human being.
  • I'm sorry for your loss @dorje, and for those who grieve with you.

What is good to know is that his actions that have had positive resonance with you and with those he's helped will live on. One positive turn leads to another, and that energy tends to remain in motion, rippling through events and leading to a better tomorrow. Knowing that, such good people never really leave us. They put themselves out into the world and hold nothing back for themselves.
