Namo Sanghyang Adi Buddhaya,
Namo Buddhaya-Bodhisatvaya Mahasatvaya,

Kadam Choeling Indonesia (KCI) is organizing an International Buddhist retreat (Dharma dan Penyunyian 2011) guided by H.E. Dagpo Rinpoche Jhampel Jampa Gyatso. The committee would like to invite and encourage you to participate and gain benefit from the beautiful Dharma.

Dharma Retreat will be held at:

Day / Date : 23 December 2011 – 31 December 2011 (Friday-Saturday)
Place : Villa Istana bunga, Lembang, Bandung – Jawa barat

In this opportunity, we are facilitated to give some time for ourselves and our mind, as well as to collect merit and accumulate wisdom by hearing, contemplating, and meditating the real Dharma.

Due to limited space, we need your prompt confirmation prior to 30 November 2011.

May we always go forward in the Dharma, May The Three Jewels always bless us.

"See a living Buddha?????" Who wants to add to their confusions?
  • I just saw the mailman.

Oh come on. Let's all take a day trip to Indonesia!
  • The ninth-century Buddhist master Lin Chi is supposed to have said, “If you meet the Buddha on the road, kill him.”

No road trips here - staying home and sitting with my own delusions - not to mention the first precept.....
  • Come on guys, for some folks Dagpo Rinpoche Jhampel Jampa Gyatso is as important as the DL. I don't care one way or another about the living Buddha label, but it would be interesting to hear what this ancient monk has to say, wouldn't it?

I was not criticizing the person. I was criticizing the "let's all go to Indonesia" aspect, as if it's an easy trek. Although I have been to Jakarta, I never made it to Bandung, a city I would very much like to go to (although I would first go to Borobudur!!! And, keep in mind that Buddhism (about 1-2% of the population) is not exactly embraced in recent years by the Muslim majority (nor are Westerners).

You are supposed to actually meet him first before doing that. :)

Yes, it might be interesting to hear what any man or woman had to say. And certainly good PR brings in good money. But a little modesty and a peek in the mirror never hurt anybody.

  • I don't really buy into the whole "living Buddha" thing myself. To me it kinda smacks of idol worship and, in some cases, deification. Every single soul is a living Buddha.

I think this term comes from Asian culture and/or mistranslation. Zen has no "living buddhas", but I remember when reading the autobiography of Xu Yun (by Charles Luk), he went on a pilgrimage and was visiting some Tibetan temples and paying homage to "living buddhas" which were called "hutuktu" in Chinese, which I thing is the Chinese equivalent of Tibetan word "tulku". But I don't know for sure.
