Barnyard babes....Gee I knew they loved Animals but not like that ;)
  • Is this supposed to be a joke? These people r crazy
  • @caznamyaw

    LMAO, thats good, hahaha :P
  • What's so crazy about it?
  • Sheesh, what a bunch of nutcases.
  • Intentional shock tactics have never been very effective. PETA unfortunately tends to revel in that sort of thing, and actually hurts their cause more than hinders, like a child throwing a temper tantrum.

From the article linked to in the OP:
"When people first visit the site, it will be very enticing and once they go just a little bit deeper, that's when they'll be confronted with images that we hope will make them stop and think and get them talking and hopefully encourage them to make a lifestyle change to a plant-based diet."

I doubt people surfing for porn are going to suddenly wax philosophical and encourage a "lifestyle change."

putting an animal next to a naked lady makes the animal seem less important
  • I agree @riverflow to go further I think the mix of pornographic images and animal cruelty will probably end up attracting some very sick people.

Why don't they spend the money that people donate to them on actually trying to stop animal cruelty by funding projects that help animals, instead of pumping money into cheap publicity stunts like this. If anything this is yet more proof that PETA are a publicity seeking organization run my a bunch of morons that care very little about true animal welfare; and that is why they will never come anywhere near to being a great animal welfare organization like WSPA, who in my opinion are the best out there
  • You disagree with their methods so they're crazy people? This sounds more like a newchristian website to me

Ok please tell me how exactly making a porn/animal cruelty website has anything remotely to do with animal welfare/rights ?? as I just don't get it. To me it sounds absurd, but thats just my opinion.

  • You're asking me to explain someone else's thought process. The point is, they are at least trying to help. Not to mention most people don't know how cruelly animals are treated, and if it saved one animals life are you gonna still condemn it? I'm not saying I agree that's the best way, and I do think that money could be much better spent but you're attacking their morality for trying to make the world better. What's much more sick than this site is the fact people harvest other people for food.
  • Is it effective? Unfortunately when people think "animal rights" this is the group that people end up mentioning-- negatively-- because of their shock PR tactics. It seems to have more of a tendency to drive people away rather than make them sympathetic to their cause, and then people lump all animal rights activists with them. They may have noble aims, but their way of achieving it is counterproductive.

PETA are not trying to help. They're simply nothing more than a group devoted to drawing attention (even if it's negative) to themselves. They claim to be about defending animals, yet they euthanize thousands each year. They oppose animal testing and chastise anyone who uses any animal product at all, yet their leader uses insulin (which is derived from pigs). They run anti-fur campaigns, yet use people like Pamela Anderson (she of the tight leather pants) to advertise for them. They help fund organizations like Earth Liberation Front (who employ arson as one of their tactics). Their immature shock tactics do far more to harm their supposed cause than to help. In short, fuck PETA and fuck anyone involved with PETA (pardon the language).
  • Yes and they get so much obvious benefit from this attention. And cause someone wore leather pants in their life means they can never turn it around. Genius. REALLY using your brains on this one.

Well in my humble opinion, for what its worth, I think creating a website like this will do the opposite, it will attract people who actually get off on these kind of images. I mean I am completely pro animal welfare and rights, but would I go to porn site to show this ? nope ! There is only one reason why anyone would go to a porn site and thats to satisfy themselves. Mixing animal cruelty with satisfying yourself, to me seems a bit sick, but thats the kind of thing PETA seems to do.

i heard about this a while ago. it was the final nail in the coffin for me. even as a vegetarian i can say, those people are freakin nuts.

Not defending PETA at all (I don't know much about them as I live in UK), but modern insulin is produced from bacteria, in vats, and has been at least since the early eighties (when I studied medical biochemistry at university).

Porcine and Bovine insulin hasn't been used for years as far as I know, which is good as it used to cause a lot of problems.

And you don't seriously believe that animal lovers should effectively commit suicide if they have no choice but to use medications? Now that is extremist - not much of a middle way there!

Anyone can turn their life around, but using leather while promoting PETA (example: the Dodge Viper, with leather upholstery, that she sold off to benefit PETA) kinda makes one a hypocrite.

I could be mistaken, but it's been my understanding that insulin is still produced using pigs and cows. At least I'm fairly certain that's what I've been told by a diabetic friend of mine.

And no, I'm not seriously suggesting that. And yes, it is extreme, but given the extreme nature of PETA's stances I'm simply "turning the tables", as it were. I stand by my belief that PETA are simply publicity whores.

Modern insulin is recombinant DNA produced. They splice in the correct DNA sequence into bacteria, which then turn themselves into little insulin factories. Thankfully bacteria are technically plants, so PETA won't have anything to say about how we're abusing the poor little bacteria to selfishly make them produce insulin for us.

Heparin, on the other hand, *is* still derived from pig products. Mostly in China. Where it gets contaminated and kills people when you inject it into them... Nice.

Still, PETA really are a bunch of whack jobs.
