spiritual life ... caveat emptor
Of possible interest to those involved in a spiritual persuasion is today's exclusive article from the Associated Press -- a revisiting of the reform promised for the Legion of Christ, a Roman Catholic Church affiliate accused in the past of pedophile cover-ups.
What I found associatively interesting about the article was the tendency of the powerful to try to dismiss or mollify or squelch the legitimate concerns of a constituency that constitutes the very basis of their power.
http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/E/EU_VATICAN_LEGION_OF_CHRIST?SITE=AP&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULTIt happens over and over and over again -- within and without -- and it doesn't clarify much simply to whine about it. I think we might all learn from our own capacity to do precisely the same thing.

Comic Relief Dept.:, courtesy of Krishnamurti:
God and the Devil were strolling together one day, when God stopped, and said, "Oh, look! The Truth! I've found the Truth!" And the Devil responded, "Great. Give it to me and I'll organize it for you."
The Buddha said, Dharma practice is a solitary pursuit. Only you can do your work, no one can do it for you. The sangha is there to support you in your individual work.
Before his death, he said it wasn't necessary for him to appoint a replacement leader for himself. The Dharma would be everyone's guide.
No organized religion = no muss, no fuss. Theoretically, anyway.
@Dakini -- Theories are the devil's workshop. Let's dispense with them and do the work.
The problem with organizations is that with spiritual ones the values at the center of the organization can become corrupted. Just as the mind in an individual can be corrupted by negative emotions.
