Hello forum members.

One of my favourite past times is watching films. I'd like to share my favourite films with you all, so here goes:

BLACK (Bollywood film. The first, but hopefully not the last Bollywood I will watch. Beautifully shot, powerful performances, a theatrical delight. Get the tissues out! More about this film:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0375611/

IKIRU (Sounds really morbid, but it's actually very tender and uplifting. Get the tissues out! More about this film:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0044741/

Bagdad Cafe (I'm sitting here smiling at the thought of this film. I look like the Chesire Cat :D !! Jasmine, the main character in this I found to be thoroughly enchanting. There should be more Jasmine's in the world! More about this film:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0095801/

Please feel free to share your favourite films!

More later - my sausage casserole is almost ready!

@zombiegirl - You mentioned Amelie. I had forgotten about that film and how much I love it. And it brings a question. Have you ever seen "Follow Me!". Also known as "The Public Eye". It stars Mia Farrow and Topol. Another forgotten favorite. Amelie reminds me of it because of innocence.

    Thanks forum!
@zombiegirl I love Hedwig and the Angry Inch. I have failed miserably at describing this film to people, in an effort to explain how wonderful it is. I usually just get a weird look!
I will put some of the other ones on my film list to rent out.

    :)

@Gui no, i haven't seen that movie. i will have to check it out! i'm always interested in seeing good films :)

@Dandelion you know, i was watching the trailer (that i posted) and thinking about how it does such a poor job at showing what a great movie it really is. people see a drag queen and based upon that, they are either interested or disinterested. the basic themes of hedwig really spoke to me at one point in my life, since like hedwig, i spent a lot of my life giving up on myself and doing what others wanted of me... all in the name of love. the true message of the movie is all about finding yourself and realizing that you're not missing anything to make you whole. it's sort of an anti-love story in a very profound way. plus, the music itself makes it probably my favorite musical.

    Death Proof

my favorite tarantino movie that received next to no publicity since it was partnered with robert rodriguez's film Planet Terror (which was a zombie movie that had a stripper with a machine gun replaced for a leg). it's obviously meant to be a throwback to old grindhouse films. but i'm not sure if i would like it as much if i wasn't a huge fan of the stunt woman Zoe Bell who does such amazing stunts in the second half of the movie (playing herself). i was literally on the edge of my seat thinking she was going to die or lose a leg or something. the fact that she does this stuff at 70 miles an hour scares the crap out of me. but also, per typical quentin, he likes a lot of realistic witty conversation and sadly, i think a lot of people are simply bored by this sort of thing... especially between women... (i don't want to get into a feminist rant here, but if you're curious of what i'm eluding to, check this video out regarding the Bechdel Test for female presence in movies.)
  • I recently discovered the movie "The Last Lovecraft: Relic of Cthulhu" If you love cthulhu (and who doesn't!?) Then I definitely recommend this flick. It has a remarkably high production value for an indie film. It's kind of a comedy/horror.
  • LOved Death Proof, what a movie! Glad there are a few that I recognize here.

Fight Club, always the Fight Club, about men who choose to get out of the rat race and pressure by fighting, Edward Norton, Brad Pitt, and Helena Bonham Carter (plus Meatloaf with bitch tits)
Babettes Feast, the silence of the Danish coast and then amazing good food, a real meditation of food creation in my mind
Pans Labyrynth- very very bloody, warning, in Spanish if you need practice, between fantasy and reality of Spanish war
Grosse Pointe Blanke, John Cusack and the 80's music!
The Worlds fastest Indian - oh you gotta see this if you haven't, Anthony Hopkins does not kill anyone, he brings his self built Indian motorcycle to the Salt Flat time trials and beats all the fancy bikes.
The Hunger - before vampires were sparkly, david bowie and catherine de neuve,

I could go on, I am reading some of the descriptions to add to my movie list

@AHeerdt I watched Babettes Feast the other week, it was brilliant. Babaette, what an earth mother!

Have you watched Breakfast on Pluto? If you like Hedwig you may like B.On Pluto too. Here is a trailer:
  • I just thought of another one, Stigmata. LOVE that movie (watching while I cook). I was in a Christian church that was focused on the Gospel of Thomas from the Nag Hammidi (books of the bible that were rejected and dug up in the desert in the 1940's, the Gospel of Thomas has a more Easten flair because he apparently went to India when other disciples went other directions).

The Straight Story is a gem of a film. I forgot about this one. I have a couple of favourites from 2009/2010 and they are these two:

  • Yes Spring Summer Autumn Winter is actually what introduced me properly to buddhism in fact. It is a great movie with little dialogue, it is not needed because the story is so well told visually. It is very interesting watching the same people, in the same place span and grow over time. I must see it again in fact, it has been only one time I have seen it!

You can see Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring for free on You Tube.

  • :D thanks. I shall watch it when I find some time. My perspective on it has probably changed as before I knew very little of buddhism and had all the ignorant misconceptions of the religion being an atheist.
