Scientists Develop Device To See Inside Dreams!

Suspect that your spouse is enamored with another? For a fee, you’ll be able to get a recording of their dreams to playback and double check. The Telegraph reports:

The secret world of dreams has been unlocked with the invention of technology capable of illustrating images taken directly from human brains during sleep.

A team of Japanese scientists have created a device that enables the processing and imaging of thoughts and dreams as experienced in the brain to appear on a computer screen.

While researchers have so far only created technology that can reproduce simple images from the brain, the discovery paves the way for the ability to unlock people’s dreams and other brain processes.

A spokesman at ATR Computational Neuroscience Laboratories said: “It was the first time in the world that it was possible to visualise what people see directly from the brain activity.

“By applying this technology, it may become possible to record and replay subjective images that people perceive like dreams.” The scientists, lead by chief researcher Yukiyaso Kamitani, focused on the image recognition procedures in the retina of the human eye.

Not sure if this is more cool or more creepy.
  • Implausible.

It's very interesting. Although personally, I view going to sleep as an extremely private activity. I can not stand the thought of having to sleep in the same room as another person (except for Mr. Dandelion, and pussycat Dandelion), I would rather take a Number 2 in front of someone. So, the thought of someone being able to see my dreams feels quite horrific. A grotesque invasion of privacy. What would being shown that your partner is having a 'sexy' dream about someone else prove anyway? I've had violent dreams, chaotic dreams, and 'rude' dreams... it doesn't mean in my awake life I am violent, live a chaotic life, or cheat on my husband (although I don't doubt that dreams do have meanings - I just don't think dreams 'prove' anything). It would be interesting to have your dream recorded for your own self, I think I would like to watch it being played back although it might be a bit freaky! No way would I want anyone else to be privy to such a personal experience though. Thanks for sharing this Leon!
  • If this device were made portable and available to the public, I'd purchase one ASAP, for use only on myself. a sort of "video dream journal"

You know how you have a lot of dreams you can never remember? well now...
  • yeah, hmm, I figure if I don't recall then there is a reason. I try to write them when I wake up and what I get is what I get.

I amsure I wouldn't want anyone peeking in my dream however.
  • I believe this is a bunch of baloney! :screwy:
  • That's pretty neat. Imagine what something like that could lead to in scientific development!
  • I believe this is a bunch of baloney! :screwy:
I agree! This sounds too good to be true.
  • Given the nature of what I see on that website, I'd venture it to be sensationalist at best and bald faced deception at worst.
