Good question, but u will get so many different definitions that it will become pointless.
I think its even better to ask: "where can i find what the buddha explicitly said about meditation?".

Roughly, the purpose of meditation is to allow you to slow down and look into your life and who you are. You will not find anything that wasn't there already, but without an effort like meditation, the habits that create uncertainty and sadness will continue to create uncertainty and sadness.
Meditation is sitting still and developing the mind.
How do you do it?
You sit still, and build on awareness of your body and mind.
What is its purpose?
It helps with everything. It helps with life.
2 Define a goal.
3 Practice the meditation.
4 Evaluate the meditation.
5 If something is wrong contact the person who gave the meditation instruction if possible.
