Detoxing

It has been recommended/pointed out by quite a few people that I am taking in alot of toxins, and it seems I am experiencing some effects (fungus, weight issues, fatigue)

I'll be doing a detox ASAP.

List of things to do, recommended by qualified people.

1. Drink lemon water in the morning.
2. Drink alot of water
3. Deep breathing excersizes
4. Aerobic excersize 30/min day 5 times a week
5. Adequate rest
6. A little harmless juice fasting
7. Organic fruits/veggies
8. Eliminate all possible toxins of course

Here's some information from a naturopathic doctor on detox if anyones interested I may go see, he seems very qualified, 4 university degrees! :D.

All of these things seem to be easy to do and my family is helping me. I wonder if anyone knows anything about it also.

Wish me luck :P

Good luck! I will be doing a detox as well! Let's do it together. Anyone have good information/links/books on physical and mental detox?

Yeah please, let's do that together. I'll make sure I post back every couple days to tell you if I followed all of it.

My friend recommended GoldenSeal as a detoxifier, but I recommened you find a qualified naturopathic doctor.

I didn't emphasize I'll be watching carefully what I eat, probably just organic stuff.

Complete fallacy and waste of time.
Those who actively promote detoxing are probably making money out of it.
    And it's entirely unnecessary.
Modifying your diet and lifestyle to eat better food, and take care of yourself is more effective.
    your body detoxes itself.

Isn't the idea that you help your body detox iteself?
  • shanyinshanyin Novice Yogin Sault Ontario Veteran
Like, the liver cleans out your blood?

I put toxins in my body everyday with the medication I'm taking. Quoting a doctor.

Wouldn't want to waste my time though.

Like for example my medication has probably been the cause for weight gain, and fungus :O. There's no denying the body heals itself, like the liver cleans out your system and cuts heal. Detoxifying is supposed to help your body deal with it... bah

I talked to a doctor who works for the olympics and I might go see a doctor with 4 university degrees who seem to like the idea of detoxifying.

    Meh, positive changes.
  • I think 1-7 are without a doubt a good thing. But if your disease you need the medication for is serious then you might need to keep the toxin in your body if the toxin is also a medicine. If 8 is talking about: smoking, drugs, animal fat, and so forth then I'd definitely go with 8 though I am being a hypocrit saying that.

Shanyin, there are different kinds of detoxes. Some are aimed at eliminating kidney stones or flushing out the liver. Some may be a more complete body detox. It depends on what you're trying to do, and what toxins you're aiming at. Have you been professionally evaluated? (If you're working with a specialist in this area, why are you asking us?) There are different protocols for heavy metals detox, for example. That doesn't sound like what you're doing, though. The lemon juice sounds like a liver/gall bladder detox.

What kind of cookware to you cook with? That's important.

Well I live at home wtih my parents. I smoke, used to drink/drugs, take heavy toxic meds, and so I have a friend who was encouraged me to stop all of it and do a detox. She's not a "qualified" western doctor. (dont worry I'm not all anti-doctor).

She recommended a detox and told me to eat alot of organic veggies and organic fruit fasting once in a while.

I don't have a specialist but I will likely be going to see one in Toronto who specializes in dealing with the crappiness of being on anti-psychotics and he suggests detox on his website.

He has 4 university degrees in medicine. (2 naturopath)

    (detox not going off medication)
  • Oh, I misunderstood, I thought you were already seeing the Toronto guy. But what your friend suggested sounds good. You can get milkthistle capsules, it's an herb that helps your liver detox.

You smoke? eww. That's serious. Shortens your lifespan and can cause all sorts of problems down the road. Now I'm worried about you. :' (
  • I quite like to detox ever so often. Its not always easy but I do feel better after it. I know there are pros and cons and each to their own and all that but my experience has always been positive. Rather than organic veg I use as much of my own grown veggies as organic can be extremely expensive and depending on how far it has had to travel to get to my plate can be eco-negative so it has to be something to bare in mind.

Couldn't hurt. Eating super healthy and being really good to your body for a while. Nothin wrong wtih that.

According to some people when we buy veggies or fruits in the supermarkets and its not organic we're not getting what we think we're getting so our bodies are craving things all the time.

I don't have proof for that.
  • When I have done a cleansing diet in the past with a naturopath we did not put exercise on the list. Basically we did 2 days of mostly vegies and some fruit, no grains oils meats. This was considered intense enough to make sure we worked a light schedule and did not add exercise. Then over a week we added grains, oil, salt and eventually meat if you ate that. I found it was beneficial in eating healthier food after that. I could not eat some of the junk I had been. And the lemon juice in water was one suggestion. And my DR did not sell any special products, I had one or two visits which taught us how to do it and have a little follow up but then we could do this anytime on our own (not often at all)

Yeah i notice the more I eat healthier stuff the less attracted I am to the junky stuff
