Sanghas?

I would like to start a thread about Sanghas to learn more about them. I plan to be a monk for some time in my adult life but don't know a lot about them. Like a typical day. The food. The people. The precepts. Can anyone whose been in a Sangha share their experience? And anyone who hasn't who knows about them I would like to learn more. Thank you all! Lots of love :)

  • What type of Sangha or tradition are you interested in?
  • That's the thing. I have no clue xD I don't confine myself to a strict Buddhist belief such as a Cristian Buddhist or an Athiest Buddhist or even an Animist Buddhist. I'm just a Buddhist. So I'm trying to gain some knowledge so I may better my decision. Any suggestion!?
  • A "sangha" is many things. Newbuddhist.com is a sangha. All Buddhists in the world are a sangha. My meditation group that meets on Sunday mornings is a sangha. A sangha can be made up of many different kinds of people.
  • I was not aware. May I specify my broad wording with a place of worship, like a community, used by monks.
  • I advise that you pick where you want to go, and then learn more about the way that particular center does things. They will be able to tell you their daily schedule and expectations. If it is not a good match for you, move along begin at step one. =)

  • This is the only one I'm vaguely familiar with. I have no other Sangha experience to offer any comparison. I don't mean this to be promoting, but they do provide a good deal of information and pics on their page to give you an idea of what a Sangha experience might be like.

  • @Telly03 Were you (or are you) a member of that Sangha?

I'd suggest finding out whats available in your area and trying them out. As you learn more about Buddhism you'll also probably gravitate towards one tradition or another and that will help narrow your search some too.
  • @jayjay I have been to this Sangha only a couple times, but I'm planning on attending regularly.
  • @person thank you and I will definitely look into the couple Sanghas in my area. @Telly03 Okay. I'd love to hear about your experiences of your visits and when you attend!
