Morning or Night?

For you and in your opinion is it more beneficial to meditate in the morning or the night time. I currently meditate at night. I have school in the morning so its a little inconvenient but it seems like it would be better so you can go throughout your day a little more peacefully. Opinions please. Thank you all :)

  • I meditate at night. I have a soon to be two year old who won't let me do anything that doesn't involve him first thing in the morning...or at any time during his waking hours for that matter. lol. I tried to get him to sit with me...yea, right. :) Some times I try for mid day during his nap. :)

I do both. In the morning one's busy mind is more subdued and meditation can often be more productive. Also, like you said, it can permeate throughout your day. Meditating at night is a good way to unwind the busy mind from the day which carries into sleep and into the next day a little.

The best time though is the time that is the most beneficial for your practice. Only you can really be the judge of that.
  • I thought the usual recommendation was to meditate twice daily, even if only for 10 minutes at a time.
  • I have also heard most recommended 2 times a day, multiple shorter sessions are very beneficial. You can both start and end your day on a good note.

Night for me, I have trouble waking up in time for work much less extra time to meditate. >.>

Any time I can grab 5 minutes.

There is no regimented time, or method.
Do what you can, when you can, but do it mindfully, even if it's in the doctor's waiting room, in a bus queue, or waiting at the checkout....
  • Both... Morning meditation on the third eye to open up my view and awaken me in preparation for the day. At night on the Heart in gratitude for all I have and to bring love and light to the world. Just have to make it a habit like not leaving the house until you brush your teeth. That is why it's called a practice.
  • @I_AM_THAT I also work on my Heart at night! @all Thank you :) I will try to meditate in the morning and at night, I just set my alarm back. Lots of love! :)
  • Would 2 am be night or morning? I just do it when I can, I would do it when I wake up but then it's too late. Maybe when I go back to school I'll do some earlier.
  • Hhhahahaaa I stay on Skype with people until 4 or 5 most nights I don't have school the next day so I know what its like meditating in the morning but feeling like its night.

I stay awake till 2-3 most nights even if I have school, and I "wake up" for school at 5:30. I blame self diagnosed insomnia. But it is one of the most productive times of my day.

My teacher says morning, because what you make time for in the morning always gets done. My experience supports this, and yet I still meditate at night like a doofus.

Meditate all the time. Even when you are not meditating :)
  • I also have a toddler son and have to meditate when he is asleep or away. Luckily I have a private office so I can meditate in the morning at work. I also try to meditate before I go to bed at night. TNH says parents should involved their kids in meditation in order to get the most out of it. I'm still figuring out how to do this.
  • Throughout the day at the office when I have a chance I switch focus and become aware of my breath. Sitting at my desk, watching each in breath and out breath. Its second nature now and effortless. As far as formal meditating such as sitting quietly with my eyes closed, I prefer to meditate in the evening an hour before bed. Mornings are just to rushed with me, lol.
