If nothing else, rent the third season and watch the episodes. The main character, Larry David, was the co-creator of Seinfeld. But this is on HBO - so they have a little more leeway.
I tried watching The Office - but I felt they were trying to mimic the original UK version too much. Just seemed like they were trying to hard to duplicate the UK show.

P.S. He sure does have some moves...
-bf
PS - that guy showing his moves in that picture you posted looks suspiciously like Chandler from "Friends". He is doing the "white mans overbite"!

"we gonna need more wax!"
Yogamama,
We like the same shows, except I've never seen either versions of the office. I can't wait for The Amazing Race to start again. I'm so glad they won't be doing that dumb family version again. That was just baaad. I try to catch every Daily Show I can because Jon Stewart is a genius and I adore Steve Carell. He's the best. He also had one of the funniest speeches at the Golden Globe awards.
legs.
teehee.
(how childish)
sorry
Richard
Yeah... what is that all about.
Like Simon said in a post long ago - something about why American men want women almost completely hairless.
What is it in society today that is causing everyone to shave just about everything off of them but their hair and eyebrows?
My girlfriend and I know a couple of guys that shave their chests.
I've been told that if I ever shaved my chest, I'd get my butt kicked.
Viva la Ziggy Stardust!

You make it sound soooo tantalizing!

Shaved or waxed pubic area.
Well, how is that any different from shaving legs or armpits? Children are missing hair in all of these places. How does one define prepubescent and the other two don't?
It's thought processes like these that made Cousin It seems like an outsider

Well if you hadn't mentioned it... thanks for bringing that up, Satori...:rolleyesc
And an excellent look it is, harlan!
-bf
I know I have face shaving down to a science of what I can get by with within a work week. Otherwise my baby-face looks like I just came in second in a hatchet-fight.
Plus, doesn't shaving the hair off of our faces make us look prepubescent? Nothing like a hoary and hairy face to make the ladies swoon!
-bf
I hate having to shave my legs and pits. I used to resent it until an ultra feminist told me that I wasn't a feminist unless I stopped shaving. So I purposely shaved and when she approached me with anger I told her I wasn't going to cast off one form of oppression for another. Now I just shave when I want to, when it gets uncomfortable. Luckily I'm a recluse so the public has no say in my hygiene. LOL!
But I do love a nice pedicure with minty lotion and all sorts of other girly stuff like nice perfumes and soaps and body butters and all that. I love The Body Shop especially. I have their Almond Oil Hand Rescue or whatever it's called. It smells SO good. I tried to make my own creams with almond oil and shea butter and essential oils and beeswax etc. but I couldn't do it cheaply enough. The Body Shop makes stuff I could never afford to make. It's all yummy! Especially the White Musk thick body cream. Using that after a hot shower and getting right into my fuzzy white robe is like heaven. Oh, how I love being a girl. I like to paint my nails too, hands and feet. That's fun. Doing the feet is a little tricky because of my back but I manage. Although I must admit I don't do it very often. The only problem with all my lovely smelling creams and stuff is that my cats don't like it when I have it on my hands. They turn their noses up at it. I completely understand but the rejection can be tough at times. LOL!
He owns the place. We're thinking of transferring the mortgage, to see how HE likes it. Knowing him, he wouldn't bat an eyelid, and find a way of paying up.
I understood every word until this last bit....
Brigid
Brigid,
Two wonderful posts.
I completely agree - no matter what our mindset is or who we associate with - trading one form of oppression for another form of oppression is ridiculous.
Also, I get cold sores.... but I don't think I can bring myself to trying your remedy
-bf
-bf"
BF,
Yeah, I know what you mean. My dad says the same thing. But if you get over the EEWW factor and try it, you'll be amazed. Two months ago I got the "tingle" and immediately put a tiny hint on my upper lip. The cold sore turned out to be a cluster of THREE, AAAGGHHH, but it never went past the first stage. It still took a week for it to go away bit it never blistered or discoloured or anything. I was SO relieved, 'cuz those cluster ones hurt so badly. They make me cry! I haven't had a full blown cold sore in 8 years now, even though I still "get" them regularly.
"I make a fair amount of potions Brigid - marigolds or lavender from the garden, steeped in ordinary sunflower oil for six weeks or so, then mixed in a pan with melted paraffin wax until you get the right consistency. Paraffin wax is sold for jam making - you pour it melted over the cooled jam to get an airtight seal and is cheap as dirt."
Knitwitch,
I still have quite a bit of bee's wax left, so I could use that until it runs out. To steep, do I crush up the flowers and put them in oil in a bottle to steep or do I leave them whole? Do I keep it out of sunlight? How much oil, approx.? And when I put it into a pan with paraffin do I put the oil AND the flowers in the pan with the paraffin? Or just the flower infused oil? Can I use lilac flowers for anything? Or little wild roses? What do you think of olive oil and honey together for a lip balm? Would that be gross? Should I just use the sunflower oil (which I love, by the way)? The reason I ask about olive oil is because I've heard it's good for mucus membrane. Is that the right term for the skin our lips are made out of? I can get tons of paraffin wax in town. I used to make candles with them. But I don't like the way it burns. But paraffin wax treatments for hands and feet are all the rage at the moment so I'll definitely use it for creams and lotions and lip balms and everything else, except candles. How smart, Knitwitch! All the time I've spent trying to dream up recipes and never once did I think to use paraffin! OR sunflower oil, for that matter. I did try wheat germ oil. What a bad mistake. It's expensive and goes rancid as soon as you look at it. Well, as soon as I looked at it, anyway. LOL! And I still have a lot of my essential oils left. They're well protected and in a dark, cool place. I still use the orange, mandarin, grapefruit and lemon for various cleaners for the house because that's still less expensive and much better than store bought.
OOHH, how I love to make potions and recipes! When I grow up I want to be a mad witch scientist with a lovely little cottage in the forest and all sorts of little furry and feathery and scaly creatures around. And a PONY! The one my dad promised me. The one he kept pretending to send back whenever I was bad. "O.K. boys! Send back the pony!" You can see how I was driven to Buddhism. Oh, the suffering! "My PONY! NOOO!!"
I forgot to ask. Are those your ferrets in your avatar? They're beautiful! Not to pick favourites, but I really do love the wee white headed one on the left.

This is an excellent quick reference site for checking up on herbs and remedies.
Any plants you use, flowers or sprigs whole is best because it's easier to strain afterwards, put them in a jam jar and squash them down so you fill the jar with as much as it can take, then top the whole thing up with oil, shaking the jar so you are sure there is no air in it. You can use olive oil if you want but I find it a bit heavy though it might be ideal for lip salve - I'd use it with thyme or sage as lavender tends to be a bit of a yucky taste.
Keep the sealed jar in a dark place for six weeks or so (the longer the better obviously) and then strain the oil off. It's ready to go.
Melt the paraffin wax in a pan on the stove and add the oil a little at a time, like you would with mayonnaise, stirring in completely each time. You can take the pan off the stove and let it cool to check on consistency because if it's too thick, you just bung it back on the heat and keep adding oil.
The oils themselves can be used alone - body moisturiser for example.
Anything else you want to know about potions, just PM me.
Ummmmm - you mean you want to take over MY life?:)
O.K. Got it. Thanks so much for that info! And I'll be sure to PM you if I have questions. But I think I get the idea. It sounds fairly simple and it's going to be MUCH less expensive!
Is that really your life? With the cottage and furry animals and everything? You don't have a pony, do you? LOL!
Frizz,
Glad I could give you a chuckle!
Love,
Brigid
The Old Feller did once buy me a Pony Tractor and hid it in the barn for my birthday, just so he could finally say - well I did buy you a pony!

USEFUL TIPS
1. Flies or bees bothering you? Spray them with hairspray and they will take a quick dive.
2. Sealed envelope - Put in the freezer for a few hours, then slide a knife under the flap. The envelope can then be resealed.
3. Use Empty toilet paper roll to store appliance cords in. It keeps them neat and you can write on the roll what appliance it belongs to.
4. For icy door steps in freezing temperatures: get warm water and put Dawn dishwashing liquid in it. Pour it all over the steps. They won't refreeze.
5. Crayon marks on walls? This worked wonderfully! A damp rag, dipped in baking soda. Comes off with little effort (elbow grease that is!).
6. Permanent marker on appliances/counter tops (like store receipt BLUE!) rubbing alcohol on paper towel.
7. Whenever I purchase a box of S.O.S Pads, I immediately take a pair of scissors and cut each pad into halves. After years of having to throw away rusted and unused and smelly pads, I finally decided that this would be much more economical. And now a box of S.O.S pads lasts me indefinitely! In fact, I have noticed that the scissors get sharpened this way!
8. Opening brand new jars can be a feat in itself. Well, I have found a way to make it the easiest thing to do. Instead of banging a jar of jam, pickles, etc.,with a knife until it loosens up, I simply reach into the drawer and pull out the handy nutcracker. It adjusts to the size of the jar and I give it a good twist and off pops the lid!
9. Blood stains on clothes? Not to worry! Just pour a little peroxide on a cloth and proceed to wipe off every drop of blood. Works every time!
10. Use vertical strokes when washing windows outside and horizontal for inside windows. This way you can tell which side has the streaks. Straight vinegar will get outside windows really clean. Don't wash windows on a sunny day. They will dry too quickly and will probably streak.
11. Spray a bit of perfume on the lightbulb in any room to create a lovely light scent in each room when the light is turned on.
12. Place fabric softener sheets in dresser drawers and your clothes will smell freshly washed for weeks to come. You can also do this with towels and linen.
13. Candles will last a lot longer if placed in the freezer for at least 3 hours prior to burning.
14. To clean artificial flowers, pour some salt into a paper bag and add the flowers. Shake vigorously as the salt will absorb all the dust and dirt and leave your artificial flowers looking like new! Works like a charm!
15. Stuff a miniature marshmallow in the bottom of a sugar cone to prevent ice cream drips.
16. Use a meat baster to "squeeze" your pancake batter onto the hot griddle and you'll get perfectly shaped pancakes every time.
17. To keep potatoes from budding, place an apple in the bag with the potatoes.
18. To prevent egg shells from cracking, add a pinch of salt to the water before hard-boiling.
19. Run your hands under cold water before pressing Rice Krispies treats in the pan and the marshmallow won't stick to your fingers.
20. To get the most juice out of fresh lemons, bring them to room temperature and roll them under your palm against the kitchen counter before squeezing.
21. To easily remove burnt on food from your skillet, simply add a drop or two of dish soap and enough water to cover bottom of pan, and bring to a boil on stovetop.
22. Spray your Tupperware with nonstick cooking spray before pouring in tomato based sauces and there won't be any stains.
23. When a cake recipe calls for flouring the baking pan, use a bit of the dry cake mix instead and there won't be any white mess on the outside of the cake.
24. If you accidentally over-salt a dish while it's still cooking, drop in a peeled potato and it will absorb the excess salt for an instant "fix me up."
25. Wrap celery in aluminum foil when putting in the refrigerator and it will keep for weeks.
26. Brush some beaten egg white over pie crust before baking to yield a beautiful glossy finish.
27. Place a slice of apple in hardened brown sugar to soften it.
28. When boiling corn on the cob, add a pinch of sugar to help bring out the corn's natural sweetness. (Works for carrots, too.)
29. To determine whether an egg is fresh, immerse it in a pan of cool, salted water. If it sinks, it is fresh, but if it rises to the surface, throw it away.
30. Cure for headaches: Take a lime, cut it in half and rub it on your forehead. The throbbing will go away.
31. Don't throw out all that leftover wine: Freeze into ice cubes for future use in casseroles and sauces.
32. If you have a problem opening jars: Try using latex dishwashing gloves. They give a non-slip grip that makes opening jars easy.
33. Potatoes will take food stains off your fingers. Just slice and rub raw potato on the stains and rinse with water.
34. To get rid of itch from mosquito bites, try applying soap on the area and you will experience instant relief.
35. Ants, ants, ants everywhere ... Well, they are said to never cross a chalk line. So get your chalk out and draw a line on the floor or wherever ants tend to march. Borax acid powder also works if you spread a thin line in the crevices that are not visible within the cabinets. See for yourself.
36. Use air-freshener to clean mirrors. It does a good job and better still, leaves a lovely smell to the shine.
37. When you get a splinter, reach for the scotch tape before resorting to tweezers or a needle. Simply put the scotch tape over the splinter, then pull it off. Scotch tape removes most splinters painlessly and easily.
38. Now look what you can do with Alka Seltzer. Clean a toilet. Drop in two Alka Seltzer tablets, wait twenty minutes, brush and flush. The citric acid and effervescent action clean vitreous China.
39. Clean a vase. To remove a stain from the bottom of a glass vase or cruet or coffee pot, fill with water and drop in two Alka Seltzer tablets.
40. Polish jewelry. Drop two Alka Seltzer tablets into a glass of water and immerse the jewelry for two minutes.
41. Clean a thermos bottle. Fill the bottle with water, drop in four Alka Seltzer tablets, and let soak for an hour (or longer, if necessary.)
42. Unclog a drain. Clear the sink drain by dropping three Alka Seltzer tablets down the drain followed by a cup of Heinz White Vinegar. Wait a few minutes, then run the hot water.
Bounce Your Troubles Away
My mail carrier told me that the US Postal service sent out a message to all letter carriers to put a sheet of Bounce in their uniform pockets to keep yellow jackets away.
Use them all the time when playing baseball and soccer.
I use it when I am working outside.
It really works. The yellow jackets just veer around you.
And all this time you've just been putting Bounce in the dryer!
It will chase ants away when you lay a sheet near them.
It also repels mice.. spread them around foundation areas, or in trailers, cars that are sitting and it keeps mice from entering your vehicle.
It takes the odor out of books and photo albums that don't get opened too often.
Repels mosquitoes. Tie a sheet of Bounce through a belt loop when outdoors during mosquito season.
Eliminates static electricity from your television (or computer) screen.
Since Bounce is designed to help eliminate static cling, wipe your television screen with a used sheet of Bounce to keep dust from resettling.
Dissolve soap scum from shower doors.
Clean with a sheet of Bounce Freshen the air in your home.
Place an individual sheet of Bounce in a drawer or hang in the closet.
Put Bounce sheet in vacuum cleaner.
Prevent thread from tangling. Run a threaded needle through sheet of Bounce before beginning to sew.
Prevent musty suitcases. Place an individual sheet of Bounce inside empty luggage before storing.
Freshen the air in your car. Place a sheet of Bounce under the front seat.
Clean baked-on foods from a cooking pan. Put a sheet in a pan, fill with water, let sit overnight, and sponge clean. The antistatic agent apparently weakens the bond between the food.
Eliminate odors in wastebaskets. Place a sheet of Bounce at the bottom of the wastebasket.
Collect cat hair. Rubbing the area with a sheet of Bounce will magnetically attract all the loose hairs.
Eliminate static electricity from Venetian blinds. Wipe the blinds with a sheet of Bounce to prevent dust from resettling.
Wipe up sawdust from drilling or sand papering. A used sheet of Bounce will collect sawdust like a tack cloth.
Eliminate odors in dirty laundry. Place an individual sheet of Bounce at the bottom of a laundry bag or hamper.
Deodorize shoes or sneakers. Place a sheet of Bounce in your shoes or sneakers overnight.
Golfers put a Bounce sheet in their back pocket to keep the bees away.
Put a Bounce sheet in your sleeping bag and tent before folding and storing them. Keeps them smelling fresh.
Thanks, Knitwitch and Satori!!
This works. I used to do this when I was younger. (I don't get sore throats anymore.)
I didn't know this one! But honey is truly a gift from the gods. It's been used for all sorts of healing since...well...forever I guess. I don't take white sugar in anything anymore. Only honey. I LOVE it!
That's brilliant. I also use clear nail polish on my pierced earrings because my ears always get infected when I put them in. I just coat the part that goes through the ear and it works perfectly.
This really does work. I've also read that it can be used with scrunched up tinfoil to shine and prevent rust on the chrome parts of cars.
Wow! Very cool! I've been trying to figure out for years what might make a boil come to a head. I thought salt? Heat? Now I know! Except I've never had a boil. But if I ever do...!
Cool! Can't wait to try this. Well, I can wait...
Yeah. Oatmeal works for so many things. I use it as a paste for really dry skin and I mix it with milk and puree it and put it in the bath. So many things. It's incredibly soothing.
I tried this one but it didn't work. I think it gets too cold up here, or something.
This really works. Also, use baking soda for all kinds of other cleaning, especially the fridge, freezer and microwave because it won't leave dangerous chemical residue. Just make a paste with water. Also works like a charm in the laundry. Mix it with peroxide into a paste and use it on gums and teeth. And if your pets have an accident indoors, soak up stain with paper towels or rags by laying them over stain and standing on them. Repeat until paper is as dry as possible. Then sprinkle baking soda on stain to soak up the rest of the moisture and odour. You can also use white vinegar to help neutralize odour. Also works like a charm. Really amazing.
I have a little trick. I use a spoon and I slide it under the edge of the lid and "pop" the seal on the jar. Sometimes you can use a regular spoon and sometimes you have to use a teaspoon.
Only figured this one out recently and it's fantastic. The important thing to remember about bloodstains or any stains, for that matter, is to soak or rinse in COLD water, never hot or warm which will only set the stain further. And soak or rinse while stain is still wet whenever possible. The vertical/horizontal thing is a great idea. Also, use hot white vinegar (warm it up in the microwave) and put it into a spray bottle. Hot vinegar works like magic and you can use it on all glass and stainless surfaces including sinks, mirrors, windshields (windscreens), fridge, freezer and microwave. Removes odours.
Never thought of this one! Great idea! I'll try it.
Yes, this really works. My family was in the flower business for almost 150 years and we sold silks as well as fresh and this was the technique that the manufacturers told us to use.
Preparation "H" also works well for itching and swelling. I use it for cat scratches. It takes a while but does a great job. Here again is a great use for vinegar. I put water and vinegar in my kettle and bring it to a boil then I pour it down the kitchen sink, bathroom sink or toilets on a regular basis. It cleans the kettle completely of all the mineral buildup and does the same in the pipes. If you have special pipes (copper?) ask your plumber first. We live in a 150 year old farmhouse and our pipes are old.
Brigid
I sew a whole box of them together to make an anti-mosquito Burka that I wear while outside.
I glow for about 3 hours after I take my "burka" off - but it's great for reading in bed at night!
-bf
You're welcome, Brigid! I've been trying a few of these myself.
Since some of you ladies know how to make creams, etc...do any of you have any good homemade facial recipes? My daughter always seems me put my facial masks on, and always wants one, but obviously, at age three, she really doesn't need one. So I thought I could make her a facial cream of her own. Maybe something simple with avocados and oatmeal or something? Obviously, I do not want anything harsh, or any chemicals in it. Any ideas?
"Coca-Cola cure for rust... Forget those expensive rust removers. Just saturate an abrasive sponge with Coca Cola and scrub the rust stain. The phosphoric acid in the coke is what gets the job done."
If Coca Cola can remove rust, aren't people afraid of what it might be doing to their insides when they drink it?? Ugh...I am so glad I don't drink soda. I hate processed foods/drinks! They freak me out.
