Rocky Anderson wants to:

Have an immediate end to the current on-going wars.
Give essential health care coverage for all US citizens.
Be more environmentally conscious.
Balance the budget through fair taxation.
End the "War on Drugs" and treat substance abuse as a health issue, rather than a criminal justice issue.
End the corrupting impact of money in the electoral system.
Control the 'Fed' through the Treasury Department and Congress.
End the death penalty.
End "enhanced interrogation methods."
Give women the 'right to choose.'
Give marriage equality to same-sex couples.
Oppose PIPA and SOPA.
End the stranglehold on our government by the military-industrial complex.

What do you guys think? Just curious.

  • Well...to be honest, it's almost identical to the mainstream Democratic Party. What's new about it?

Good ideas aren't enough. The two party system puts a stranglehold on anything from outside. I really wish America would implement ranked choice voting.
  • I'm very partial to the Canadian Conservative Party under Stephen Harper. I think it's far more competent than its Republican counterpart here. He's a decent man for taking unpopular international stances on Israel.

That, and I absolutely love Canadians. Was in Toronto a few months ago and stayed with some splendid folks.
  • I've seen 3rd party candidates with really good proposals, values in the right place, etc. (Nader is the prime example.) But how good would some of those people be, negotiating with Congress, getting people to vote for his measures? That's the big problem. Even Obama, who fancied himself as a go-between, hasn't been able to get the support he's needed, overall. For all Nader's good ideas, I think he'd be a train wreck. He's used to working alone and calling the shots. Cooperation isn't his thing.

I'm not familiar with this new candidate, but any 3rd party candidate would have a tough time in today's highly polarized political climate. To accomplish what he proposes, first of all, he'd have to get the Republicans to support tax increases. Good luck with that.
  • Or Ron Paul
  • I don't agree with all his left views, but most of them, but that's why I consider myself a Libertarian.
  • Woops. I actually made a mistake. It's the JUSTICE PARTY, not liberty party.

Feel free to keep us posted on the party's activities. I haven't seen anything in the news about this.
  • Nice idea. Unfortunately, like Communism (pure Communism) it fails to take into account basic human nature.
