Idea? New things? Practices?

I've been a Buddhist for a little while now. I'm incorporating most things as best as possible. I usually meditate from 10-30 minutes a day, practice mindfulness, and basically research as much as possible on Buddhism. I'm soon to start attending a Buddhist Temple near my house. I feel like maybe I'm missing something? Things are becoming slow. I know I shouldn't be saying it as it seems like a taboo to me. Any ideas? Suggestions? Things to try? Things to read? things to watch? things to research or look up? Anything really. I'd love some insight. Thanks to all! You guys always help out :D

  • Is good to attend Buddhist temple. To knoe buddhism beauty is to know yr beautiful mind. In order to thoroughly imvestigate this mind. The Shurangama Sutra is a good read. It is helpful as it investigates 7 types of mind.
  • it is good that you are noticing your progress spiritually IMO, this is a form of mindfulness. Things are subject to change, everything is subject to change. You are in a situation at the moment where you feel things are slowing down, a negative notion, so you can make the change. Visiting a temple would be a good start, try even looking to join a sangha. I do not know how long you have been practicing, you mentioned that it has been a while, but that could be 3 months or 30 yars hehehe. Also, I do not know your full background etc, obviously I have only read this short post, I consider compassion to be an important part of the path, so maybe try reaching out to those in need of help in any shape or form. Opening ones heart will help to open ones mind. Sorry of this sounds rushed, mainly because it is, I have thinbgs to do today which are quite important, I hope you can take something from this post, the one above and future posts, take care, Tom
  • Are you sure you are slowing down op?
Is it possible that everything that you passionately assimilated is becoming natural or it's becoming your natural state?
  • Interesting and good question, only one person knows the answer to it however, and it isn't Steven Hawking.

Could you explain more about what you mean by slowing down?

It sounds like you're doing well. You may be getting to the point where you're starting to settle down in your practice, some of the novelty has worn off and it begins to get real. Everyone who practices for a while goes through it. Its normal though and just takes a bit to readjust.

The daily Dharma drops section is a good read. Alot there. Sooooo many suttas and words of the Buddha.

The temple sounds like a great idea to me.
  • We actually had a thread once, on boredom in attending sangha. It does tend to go slow. Use it as an opportunity to overcome boredom. :)

Shurangama Sutra is amazing. Too bad most here would find it too "superstitious"!
  • You are new here, Bhagavan. People here are too "smart" for many Buddhist beliefs :)
  • Some great ideas. Thank you all very much. Very helpful insight. I believe I have just become nestled into my practices like a falling leaf from a tree. I face ups and downs, thrills and chills, and quite the dropping point in my life, but I have gracefully landed on the beautiful fall ground were I begin to become a part of it. I'm settling into my practice. And its not slowing down, its becoming pure and natural. Thanks again everyone!!
  • @caliguy819 why do your comments sound like a back handed slap to the rest of us? I don't appreciate your "QUOTES"...

BTW, yeah! Lots of off the charts geniuses here...and I do mean high IQs, yet with a measure of kindness and humility.

This has been the kindest forum I have been a part of. Sometimes we get a few people who are rude but don't take my word for it, look around.
  • Yeah, thank you @Lady_Alison! People here are so polite and helpful, I'm glad to have some place to go for anything I need! :D

Sorry but we don't have extra cheese on our pizza deals though, even though there has been much talk of it, it is not a reality yet. But you can always ask anything you like and we will try :)
  • Hahhahaa I can always count on that :)
