Clinging on deathbed vs no clinging?

Hi all, I have read about attaining liberation on your deathbed so this has got me thinking.

If someone on their death deathbed is not clinging at all to life, with no desire, no fighting, with minimal suffering will they go to higher realms vs someone that is really cling on, fighting, desiring and suffering? Even though both of them have the same karma.

I would think that if someone is terrified just before they die they would go to a place were terror or fear exists.

Peace!

One's state of mind at the time of death is said to be very important in determining the direction of the next rebirth. It's sometimes referred to as throwing karma.

This is a good explanation of it.

No clinging is best, to go peacefully. They say you'll make better choices in the Bardo state, leading to a better rebirth.

You may find the film "Tibetan Book of the Dead" informative and comforting.
  • I am sick and have been to the hospital 4 times in the last week. I have every right to know how to die. And so does everyone else. Many people wait until it's TOO LATE to research about death. Then it's to late. DON'T FALL FOR THIS TABOO. Be independent and find out what you can do and expect at the end of life.

    Peace!
  • I'm sorry, I'm worried about you. What is wrong? Of course we will help anyway we can, you are not alone.

I have done it all. If you can think of a supplement or herb, I have probably tried it. My problems are deep. I am barley hanging on to life as far as I know. I have chronic degradation of my body. Thanks for your concern though.

I'm telling you, research end of life options before it's to late for yourself. Don't wait till it's too late. Know your options.

    Peace!
  • I think fear and terror is a state of mind and not exactly equals that you will automatically go somewhere terrible just because you go through the healthy motions of grieving...even your own death.

...the life after death must be fascinating and I look forward to it.
  • May I recommend a movie I gave to my Buddhist neighbor who passed away a few years ago...

@AstralProjectee: Sad to hear about your medical condition. May you be well soon.

As far as your query goes, what i am saying below is just my view only- i do not know whether it is correct or not - i think the clinging desire at the moment of death, leads to rebirth. moreover what we think at the moment of death is not that important, because what we have done throughout our lives, the thoughts about these doings only is i think coming at death and i think it decides our mind state at that point. So a person who has done only skillful actions shall find peace in end, whereas a person doing unskillful actions shall find pain and agony in end.

so i think for you - what you will think at the time of your death is not that important to consider , in comparison to what skillful actions you can do currently in the present moment to make your life more virtuous. so better it shall be to live in the present moment and try to live your life skillfully in the present moment.

The above are my views only and i do not know whether it is correct or not.
