  • When I have some time today Leon I will be sure to watch it, I know little about zen and I must admit, I have always had a kind of notion that it seems like the lazy school. You know, just sit, be with what is etc. Also a lot o the proverbs seem paradoxical lol, but I am ignorant to it so I shall view it at some point.
  • Thank you Leon. That was very helpful. I'm making my way to the cushion right now.
  • So I watched it like I promised, is it just me or is he speaking in a language I do not understand? This really did not help in the slightest because it was a guy saying an awful lot about something which I do not understand. I am sure if I spoke the language it would have helped...

Proper Zen practice requires disciplined and diligent daily meditation practice, definitely not for the lazy. :) People who live at zen temples generally get up at 4-5AM every day, definitely not for the lazy. :) To "just sit" requires a fair amount of discipline. To "just sit" is quite difficult!

    Exactly!
Not only that but they also clean around the Temple do other chorus, like cooking and much more. Zen is a one of the most difficult practices in Buddhism.

No no... that's Pure Land! :p

Joking!! I have lots of respect for Pure Land, and considered myself a practitioner of Jodo Shinshu at one point, but it really is the "easy path." The temple that I attend every so often is a mix of Chan and Pure Land (mainly Chan), so I get a bit of both worlds.
  • I liked it a lot........mainly because I didn't and don't know a great deal about Zen and was pleasantly surprised to find that the breathing technique is one that I use anyway as a good "centerer" (just made that up but you get the drift). Thanks for sharing. ;) It has given me the incentive to research Zen a bit further.

Nope. I figure, but don't know, that any Buddhist practice is "most difficult" according to the determined seriousness of mind that students bring to it.

Difficult because it's the simplest. That's how I look at it.
