I haven't watched the film yet, but I've read that the corporate business environment tends to reward sociopaths.

Interesting! Any good links to the source? This is quite fascinating. As a psychologist. Lol.

Oh, good question. I have no recollection where I read that. I think it was something about the fact that manipulative personalities who have no qualms about using others as stepping-stones to get ahead get rewarded in the corporate culture. That's not to say that decent people can't get ahead by working hard and being honest. It says that if you're the cold, calculating type, you'll thrive in corporate culture.

What a surprise ! In Samsara to succeed people would even sell their own mothers. How foolish all wealth results from having practiced giving in the past and accumulating non virtue for the sake of material possessions that slip through your hands like grains of sand is indeed very foolish.

Here's a good article about CEO psycopathy.
the incidence of psychopathy among CEOs is about 4 percent, four times what it is in the population at large.

  • That was very interesting, I followed some links to other information. It was clear that you should not try and diagnose others however I took comfort in the ongoing message that victims are not expected to see this coming. Just being trusting, or being in a low moment in life, can make you vulnerable to the everyday types.

I think the everyday type dangerous people (psychopaths, narcissists, etc) are ones that as compassionate buddhists we need to be educated about. I know I have practiced 'idiot compassion' many times, and during a low period in my life I let in some people that ended up being very bad for me and my family. Now that I have had several relationship losses I am working on not being vulnerable to that again and this information is very helpful.

In their power positions they are far from harmless. For example I did not overextend on my home, I got my degree in a solid field, and I was prepared to use the fair share of what I got in my divorce to start my kids in life. I have no credit, am not earning the basic level I trained for (and owe the student loans), my kids fell apart emotionally last year with the security of their home gone, and lost the basic equity I paid in which was college money. None of this was caused by your average hard working citizen. Sometimes all I want is an apology from one of the people who made decisions that affected everything. I know I am not the only one making excuses and apologies to creditors on this forum, But knowing history there have been much worse situations so I can't take it too seriously.

Read the book/watch the film "The Corporation." It was written/produced by a law professor at my university!

But the basic premise of it is that the corporate entity would be classified as a sociopath under psychiatric standards, but we accept it for some masochistic reason.

I have seen the documentary. My girlfriend when she was getting her BS in Business Management, she had to watch the documentary for one of her classes. Thanks for bringing it up!
