A Possible Goodbye To The Internet 31st March

Comments

  • If this did happen it would be a huge event, but it would make people think how reliant on the internet they are.

They might make a dent. A small one. But my understanding is that there is just way too much redundancy for a truly crippling blow.

I guess we'll know in a few days.

Of course, nothing really matters with 12/21/12 looming ahead. :D

Funny you bring that up! 200 people have gathered on some mountain and are getting ready for end of the world: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/hippies-head-for-noahs-ark-queue-here-for-rescue-aboard-alien-spaceship-7584492.html

Just goes to prove that there's more of them out than in.

I agree. It'll be a non-event just like when the calendar rolled over to start the new century. All that panic for nothing.

  • I am not saying either way, but all of the so called nightmarish events were meant to be acts of nature or things beyond our control, this is different as it is a group of people claiming they will do something or try to do something.

I'm not overly concerned tbh. You have to realize that Anonymous makes a lot of claims. Anonymous is made up of anyone who has a computer and decides to go without a face or way to identify them. Anyone can be Anonymous, really. That being said a claim like that could have been made by some random person who just threw it out there and said it is from Anonymous.

But, Anonymous must be taken seriously too. If anyone can stop the internet, it is them.

When first reading the OP link the thought was... "Oh no, that would mess up th.... oh, actually what would it mess up?" Hmmm .. have a website and blog...do a lot of business correspondence through email, compulsively post Buddhist stuff online, browse goofy meme-ish stuff with my kid...

If it went "poof" nothing essential would have changed. I would miss the online social dimension, but get over it. Not as dependent as it seems.

To me, if this were a serious attempt it wouldn't have made it to the public. My guess is that this group saw some vulnerability and wanted it addressed, after all they love the interweb, so they leaked a story to hopefully put a fire under some people's butts.
