What's the matter with sick as a meditation?

    Hope you feel better.

    The advantage of being sick:
You don't have to go to work, so you can meditate all day long!

Hope you will feel a bit better soon.

Chögyal Namkhai Norbu relates that once someone asked the famous Dzogchen Master, Yungtön Dorje Pel, what his practice consisted of. He replied with the negative “mepa” or “there isn’t.”
Then his startled questioner asked again, “Then you don’t meditate?”

    To which the Master replied,

....“And when am I ever distracted?”

When I'm sick, I typically try to do some laying down meditation... and usually, after a while, I fall asleep... but that's completely okay because if it happens, then that's what my body needs to help gain some strength. :) If possible, don't push yourself to do anything when sick, let your body do it's thing.

Just do.. "feeling like shit meditation" It is as good as any, especially considering that at some point you will probably end up feeling like shit real bad....and not get better.. just get worse and worse... then die.

hm...I'd be inclined to say, why cling to a daily meditation practice when you're sick? Santa isn't checking up on you to make sure you're keeping up, come hell or high water. On the other hand, "This, too, shall pass" is a good mantra for when you're sick. :)

I didn't have anywhere to post this but here goes. I've been dealing with allergies since January. Basically sinusitis with a little headaches and sneezing. In February I had a cold for a week and it went away. The beginning of march I got what felt like a cold again except it didn't go away after 10 days. It felt worse to the point that I couldn't breath and had a whooping cough with fever. My throat was on fire. I went to a doctor, diagnoses as bronchitis with a sinus infection and got amixcilin for 10 days...felt okay after the full course. But that takes us up to a few days ago...the pain in my throat and cold symptoms started again....today, I got a z pack, a form of super antibiotics for super bugs (azithromycin) ...I'm so tired of being sick...I've been sick 3 months.

I had a tdap and hep3 vaccine during this time because I needed adult vaccines. I'm wondering if this caused my immunity to drop bellow a certain level. I'm not a nurse.

I know I've been around my friend's kids, too..

I just wanted to rant. Also to give you a heads up to see a doctor if it doesn't go away or gets worse after a week.

I've never been this sick in my life.

This is worrisome. It sounds like the first round of antibiotics didn't kill off all the bugs. It also sounds like there may be some antibiotic-resistant bugs. And then there's the susceptibility issue. How do you know these are allergies?
  • I had a face scan and chest xrays. It showed that there was a sinus infection and a virus I picked up from somewhere else made it worse.

Bronchitis with a sinus infection... doctor gave me normal antibiotics because she doesn't want me to become used to it but it had some affect just didn't get rid of it completely.

But a sinus infection doesn't necessarily indicate an allergy-based cold, does it? Do you have any idea what you're allergic to? January is a strange time to get an allergy cold. Feb, and easing into spring is more like allergy season (pollen).
  • I get sick right at the start of spring with a sinus cold that goes away in 2 weeks. I am quite healthy and only get sick once a year. This sort of just was strange. I can't explained.

Aside from seasonal sinus colds I'm not allergic to anything else.

But what is the allergen, do you know? Or do you only know it's something in the air, some plant allergen?

An infection means you need antibiotics whether viral or bacterial.

I live in Houston so we don't have a normal winter to spring pattern. We have hot humid swamp like weather during Xmas and all year long some years. But February March is blooming season.
  • I would have to get a full allergy test for that...but I have a so so idea as to what...I think it's mold, aerosols, dust and pollen..but not sure of anything else

Viruses don't respond to antibiotics. Docs aren't supposed to prescribe antibios for a virus.

Oh, great. Swamp. I hope you're able to beat this thing, it sounds like you've suffered too much already. But I'm wondering about prevention for the future, now, too. Can you think of any reason why your immune system might be weakened? Stress? Change in diet? idk.
  • Maybe stress and adult vaccines? Not sure really...the only difference is I'm around more kids lately...exposure to different houses.
  • I really have tried to identify what the cause is so I'm not sure, either.

Prevention? Daily vitamin c chewable and a one a day.

Getting plenty of sleep is also prevention. You've been staying up late a lot, and getting up really early in the morning (I mean, before these illnesses). Maybe something there needs to change. Other than that, I have no clue. It sounds serious, though.

Well, there is no better time to reflect upon the state of illness then when you are actually ill. It's a learning experience OP. Just don't get caught up in the delirium brought upon by your fever.
