Books or Sutras that inspire you to practice (especially Zen)

edited April 2012 in Buddhism Basics
Hello guys. It's been a while since I've been here. I was practicing fairly regularly for a while and the I came down with killer allergies that made it impossible to breathe through my nose and made me not want to meditate... And I'm just now trying to try again but I'm lacking motivation. I need a good new book to jumpstart me. Are there any sutras you guys read before meditation sessions... I know a lot of schools of Zen use the Heart Sutra. Anything else? Thanks.

I like "Swampland Flowers: The Letters and Lectures of Zen Master Ta Hui." It is frequently addressed to people in lay life ... and yet refuses to lower the banner.

"The Book" by Alan Watts, "The Heart of Understanding" by Thich Nhat Hanh, and the Japanese movie "Zen" are some of my inspirations.

    strive to end suffering'
  • Thanks for the suggestions guys... I guess I expect too much from books... I have at least twenty books about buddhism and I still can't find just one to keep coming back to.
