Happy Easter Weekend

edited April 2012 in General Banter
Or, just happy weekend if anyone doesn't celebrate Easter; although it's more of a cultural thing than religious anymore considering it being a national holiday in secular countries and all the pagan symbols and traditions in it... but anyways.... enjoy the chocolate bunnies.

Here's Passion of the Christ so we can learn to appreciate the Christian background of Easter.

And here is a shaman dancing... you know, to intertwine the pagan aspect of it into this.

You know, it's not exactly a national holiday, not in the sense of a federal holiday, because it's on a Sunday.

I think it was @Lady_Alison who shared with us that it was the Emperor Constantine who moved a bunch of Christian anniversaries over on the calendar to combine them with pagan holidays. I looked it up. According to a lot of info on the internet, he claimed to have converted to Christianity, but he continued observing the pagan traditions, and combined them with Christian holy days to sort of elevate them and make sure they didn't get lost.

I heard that he combined them because the pagan holidays and traditions were still really popular, like Saturnalia, even with the growth of Christianity. It's like knocking down a house and building a different one on the same spot. Different name, same holiday with few tweaks.

Well as it's traditionally connected to the rise of spring and the awakening of life, and the joy of procreation, i know what I'm going to be doing this weekend!

transplanting my tomato seedlings and cross-pollinating my orchids.
  • Chocolate rabbits and peeps! The only good thing for this holiday. Also the reeses eggs are much better than normal cups since you get so much more peanut butter in them.

Oooh, I will be appreciating the Christian background at church bright and early on Sunday morning with the sigoth's mother. Hooray.

When my girlfriend told me that she was "Southern Baptist" I got really excited because I thought the music would be awesome. Turns out, I was DEAD WRONG. That's regular Baptist. The music at her church is so boring and flat. :( Every time I go to their church, I just wish Sister Mary Clarence would bust in from stage left. Sigh. Maybe this Easter I will finally get my wish...

Jesus Ate Chocolate Bunny Rabbits On Easter Sunday

Jerusalem, Israel-- Exciting new biblical research is giving religious Christians some new information about the very first Easter. It now appears that Jesus returned from the dead with a ravenous appetite for things like chocolate bunny rabbits, marshmallow chickens, and coconut eggs! It also appears Jesus liked hard-boiled eggs too, as long as the shells had a nice colour.

"Enjoy your Easter sweets. Jesus certainly did." stated Pope Benedict XVI. "If it was good enough for the Lord, it's good enough for you."

Vatican scholars now believe the Crucifixion was very tiring, and Jesus needed a 'sugar buzz' to get started after the Resurrection. Someone left Jesus plenty of junk food in his tomb, after he was taken down from the Cross. Many believe it was the Virgin Mary.

"Jesus ate the chocolate bunny rabbit's ears first, so start there." said the pope. "It may seem cruel, but Jesus also loved eating marshmallow chickens especially. He ate dozens of them." he stated.

Biblical scholars now believe the Virgin Mary also left some coloured hard-boiled eggs for her son. She was probably depressed after watching her son's execution, and coloured the eggs to cheer herself up. The Virgin Mary wasn't too concerned about the cholesterol, because Jesus was already dead.

After his sugary meal, Jesus had a nice sugar rush, and went outside his tomb to scare the Apostles, and smoke a little weed.

"Easter is fun! Enjoy it, like Jesus did!" laughed the pope.

  • omg I love that cartoon, I am happy because I will have my kids totake to church and then they go with their dad for a party which they are looking forward to.

I stil have the habits of Easter, that means we get new clothes to wear to church, a summery dress for the next many months, and I love chocolate, and I already made the vinebred (danish pastry)
  • DakiniDakini Veteran
@AMH What's vinebred? I know fyrstekake (Prince's cake), but not vinebred. Do share. :)
  • It is just the name that was handed down with the recipe for the pasty. i havs a danish cookbook and all of those pastries seems a little different (and much harder to make) It is a long narrow filled pastry that i make with prunes, apples or apricots
