A debate between a Catholic and a Presbyterian church played out over church signs.

So all the pictures are the same except for the words so it's probably fake, but its still really funny.

    Can't open it....

but yes, I believe if there is a dog heaven, they deserve to go there simply for the fact that they've had to put up with stoopid idiot humans all their lives.

when I studied the bible, I found a passage, (don't ask me where, but I did.)

At the end of time, 'all' of the creations of God shall be judged.

Animals are in the Christian belief are created by God. So, why wouldn't they have to be judged as well?

Trust me, they'll come off better than the humans.

Yes, and Noah did take all those animals on the ark... ;)

No argument from me about that idea, come to think of it, most of the time, not that I think like that, most of the time ..... and luckily, not up for me to judge.

I sometimes fail to understand why the "Animal Realm" is a worse one than a human Realm....

In practical, Buddhist terms, of course I understand the logic of it being a lower realm, (consciousness, understanding of the Dhamma, etc) but most animals are subject to suffering because of human intervention...

for example, if a being is reborn as an ox, and that ox is destined to pull a heavy cart all his life, and suffer the blows of his human masters - the humans are the ones inflicting this misery on him.

If speculatively, he's an ox because in a previous life he behaved badly as a human, and was thus born into a lower realm - then it was his stupid human actions which got him there....
    Does anyone follow....?

(To my mind, the realms are allegorical, but I'm just adding to the discussion here...)

I can't see the images, but I know what they are. The images are shopped, or rather using a program you can find online. Anyone remember this?

Can't say if being an animal is a worse fate than being human. But just watching what goes on in the back yard, any idea of the caring, nurturing, "wise", nature of eco-romantics falls apart. It is an unsentimental and indifferent play. The most appalling suffering animals endure is inflicted on each other.. and by their environment. They hurt each other without a shred of empathy.. or ill will. Just feeding and carrying on. Nothing personal. The suffering animals undergo in the nightmare of a factory farm is appalling too.. of course. Animals in a loving human home have it good...

The cruellest of domestic pets are the cats.
the damage they inflict upon the bird population is criminal - but it can be avoided or averted by putting a good bell on their collar....
They'play' with their prey, and certainly haveno need to hunt if well-fed and content....

But most unnecessary suffering inflicted on animals, is within a captive or human-controlled environment, such, as you rightly point out, as in factory-farming.
Wild animals which hunt and kill, do so by and large out of necessity.
It is rare to find mindless cruelty inflicted by one animal on another.

If we leave aside that humans are animals also.....
  • Going back to the original post... It just shows you how a minor difference within a class of religious beliefs could lead to such strong and varying views. I am sure there are many different buddhist interpretations of the wheel of Dharma and what it symbolizes. In my opinion, it is only the human realm that has the possibility of reaching liberation from the spinning wheel of life and death.

Probably because if you take away the higher ideals of conscious thought, youre left with raw animal behaviour...

Well, if you read my post in its entirety, you'll see I do touch on that....
but my point is that, most suffering animals go through is inflicted by humans.... and a re-birth into an animal realm was as a result of a less-than-skilful "previous life".... and only gods/devas, titans/Asuras and humans can go down.....
  • what has this to do with "Do dogs go to Heaven...."....?
The picture is of church billboards. I was showing how easy it is to make fake ones.

By following animal instinct, the animals behave in such way that lead to more bad karma. Almost endless cycles stuck in samsara with almost no end in sight, without being aware of it.

There are more sufferings than those inflicted by humans; some obvious, others subtle. (to name a few obvious ones: violent deaths by elements, or natural enemies; driven to seek food... etc)

Yes, and those Buddhists always seem to be arguing about rebirth... :p
