polyphasic sleeping

Hey everyone,

I'm going to begin polyphasic sleeping and in case that you don't know what that is, it is contrary to monophasic sleeping that we all do and instead you sleep several naps during any 24 hour period. For example one programme called "Uberman " is sleeping 20min every four hours. your body then enters immediately REM sleep and you can be awake more.

So If anyone here has experience or advice le' me know

still trying to figure out how would you implement it while working a job

Yeah, you better not miss a nap or else you WILL crash, and you will crash hard. As in you might feel sleepy for the next few days kind of crash,
  • i know a guy in the navy who says polyphasic sleeping works wonders when they're working that sort of routine, he said he'd never trade it for normal sleeping though - it works but i don't know that i'd be changing biological cycles without good reason

Yes I've heard mixed reports about this kind of issue. some people have no side effects. this guy also who has been sleeping 30 min every 6 hours for two years was examined by doctors and found to have been completely without maleffect, he was healthy in other words...

I mean even dogs sleep in naps so how biological do you think these tendencies are then?

I'm talking about people biology, not dog biology
    :p

I think it'd be pretty entrenched, most of our hormone cycles are seemingly hardwired to fit our monophasic sleep pattern. I'll have to do some science journal reading to find out.

even babies, they are the best polyphasists
  • I don't know who you're trying to convince here :p

Be sure to tell us how it goes!

  • i dont know who youre trying to refute
I'm not, simply putting what i know about it on the table :)

best not ask for peoples experience/advice if you're going to react like that when it doesn't fit what you want :p

maybe I ought to have simply took head of Buddhas advice, "try don't ask"

You asked for 'experience or advice'.
    That was forthcoming....

    so....
    what's your gripe? :)

'Cause, everytime I try something new, Buddhism, vegetarianism, "Hey, I want to be a pilot", anything, there is always someone saying that I am wasting my time. Never in those words, but always mean that. and no I'm not making things up in my mind........

    Er... yes you are.
Nobody here has stated that you are wasting your time.
Cam quite clearly stated two things which give rise to recommending further investigation:
i know a guy in the navy who says polyphasic sleeping works wonders when they're working that sort of routine, he said he'd never trade it for normal sleeping though - it works but i don't know that i'd be changing biological cycles without good reason
    (Experience/Advice)

    and
I'll have to do some science journal reading to find out.
    (Advice.)

Perhaps next time you should "only ask for experience or advice that supports what I am doing, because i don't want anybody to disagree with me. "

ok, so I decided to postphone my new sleep schedule, the reason being I have work next month and doubt that I can get away with sleeping there. Maybe if I had a car... no I never will and also I have some school exams at the end of this month so I want to be vigilant. after the summer however I will try and fit this somehow to my life cause I very much want to try. I'll post the results here then, ok cool...

    Tell you what.
I'll close the thread, and when you're ready to make further input, just give me a heads-up and I'll happily re-open it, ok? :)
