deadline nears for Irish Christian Brothers abuse victims
I hesitate to bring the topic to this Buddhist bulletin board, but the issue is important enough and the chances that someone here might be affected by it are credible enough so that I will bring it up briefly:
A bankruptcy court has set a deadline of Aug. 1, 2012, for all those wishing to bring forward claims of sexual abuse at the hands of the Irish Christian Brothers, a Catholic order with headquarters in New Rochelle, N.Y. The order wants bankruptcy protection in the wake of 50 abuse claims laid in Seattle and Canada.
Abuse victims have often lived with their despair for years, if not decades. The helplessness they felt as children who were put in horrifically-confusing and terrifying circumstances continues in the silences they have maintained. It is hard beyond naming to break such a silence, but I urge any who have been affected in this way to rethink their silence and consider making a leap of faith into a world that is no longer helpless. There are many who can and will help such individuals ... but they need to ask ... and they need to ask soon.
Though far from the best bit of description,
here is something I wrote. There are links to other, more thoughtful sites within that writing.
