Meditation is the process of seeing beyond the obscurations of our own attachments. Few things enforce the power of those obscurations like our own physical vulnerability.
Whether you are cultivate the good through concentration or metta.
Or you are doing insight practice.
One can learn a lot from every mind state.
In Tibetan Buddhism, they suggest that you learn to discipline the mind, as an aware observant mind in the state of mindfulness is of great benefit during the transitions of death and rebirth.
On more mundane levels, any relaxation will help your health, and meditation is one form of relaxation. Therefore, it will assist with the healing, but meditation itself has no special healing powers.
Offer your sickness to the hell and hungry ghost realms, they love that sort of thing . . .
