Donating to people in another country. Organization suggestions?

hi there,

I'm wanting to donate to people who have no food/shelter/ basic needs. Does anyone happen to have a website or some sort of organization I could participate in? I can't physically go to the other country, but I'd like to donate some money per month, (or something) also this goes without sayin'.. for the money to go directly to the people in need.

PS I'm coming here cause I don't want to get trapped on an internet scam when donating. I'd like to pay online if that's even possible? I'm new to this. I live in LA and donate to the community a little bit, I'd just like to some what extend it if I can.

I'm a fan of the Heifer Project. An ex-teacher at my school and her husband started a project similar to Doctors Without Borders, but they only do Guatemala. I can vouch for the honesty of the charity and that funding goes for what they say it goes for. Check out http://www.partnerforsurgery.org/
