Dreaming with white baby elephant

I would like to know what the meaning of my dream might be. I dreamt that I had a baby white elephant that was so tiny that he fit into my lap. He was very happy and ran around a lot and I was very concern about him and kept chasing after him so that he doesn't get into any trouble. I couldn't see his face but I knew he was an elephant and I remembered touching his skin, how rough it was and it was white/pink in color. I was also telling people that he was a baby elephant. Then he finally calmed down and lay in my hands and fell asleep. I carried him around for a while and was glad that he finally fell asleep. Then the earth shook under me and people ran everywhere thinking that it was an earthquake. As I looked down, he disappeared from my hands.

  • The white elephant is a Buddha taking birth.
Queen Māyā and King Suddhodhana did not have children for twenty years into their marriage. According to legend, One full moon night, sleeping in the palace, the queen had a vivid dream. She felt herself being carried away by four devas (spirits) to Lake Anotatta in the Himalayas. After bathing her in the lake, the devas clothed her in heavenly cloths, anointed her with perfumes, and bedecked her with divine flowers. Soon after a white elephant, holding a white lotus flower in its trunk, appeared and went round her three times, entering her womb through her right side. Finally the elephant disappeared and the queen awoke, knowing she had been delivered an important message, as the elephant is a symbol of greatness in Nepal.[1] According to Buddhist tradition, the Buddha-to-be was residing as a Bodhisattva, in the Tuṣita heaven, and decided to take the shape of a white elephant to be reborn on Earth for the last time. Māyā gave birth to Siddharta c. 563 BCE. The pregnancy lasted ten lunar months.

  • personperson Don't believe everything you think The liminal space Veteran
In dream symbolims an elephant often represents wisdom or experience. The color white represents religious or spiritual feelings. So my guess is that the elephant represents your feelings about your Buddhism.

  • I think the elephant represents love. So you are wondering if love will leave you, like a worry.

  • Thank you all for the comments and help. I do feel that it means that my spiritual development is at it's infancy. I am on the right track but I have a lot to learn and experience. But this is what makes us spiritual isn't it? Our ability to overcome the materialistic ideology of this realm.
  • Another thought is that the earthquake represents death. And you don't know when you will die so you are realizing that you have a limited time on earth to practice your spirituality.

That might be me just thinking about my own place today. I have a lot of time to meditate and study and I am just beginning to take advantage of it.

I would like to have such a wonderful dream. I hope you remember it and are inspired.
  • Hmmm. I don't think I have a limited time, I will be born again. It is definitely a sign of something and I am very grateful for this dream and I am excited about what it means for my future.
