Using activities to become more mindful

I have transformed two activities to practice mindfulness. One is waiting for the coffee to brew. I do walking meditation until the gurgle. Before I probably would get caught daydreaming which isn't so bad, but I prefer the relaxation of such a meditation.

The second is interesting not only due to the relationship to 'a bell of mindfulness'. Whenever something is loading up I always get so impatient. It's to the point where sometimes something is installing and I screw it all up by cancelling in the middle or banging on the spacebar like ten thousand times. So first there is the question of why that happens? I think it is because I don't have any sense of the problem of installing. I am pretty happy if there is a steadily moving progress bar, but if that bar is not there what then? Well I take my awareness into my body and I laugh at how impatient I am.

I don't think there is anything that can't be a support platform for a meditation practise. Some of the most noteably helpful are those activities that one frequently has to do during the day. Your coffee making and computer activities are good choices.
Since I drive a lot through out the day, one of my favourites was relating to my truck like I do to my meditation hall.

How about mindful forum posting? All too often the pauses are everywhere. There is a meditative technique of slowing the pace of actions by half. This in itself will allow for more mindfullness . . .

Same here with the coffee brewing. Also washing the dishes, waiting for the train, the lights to go green and things like that.

  • @Jeffrey Thanks for sharing that simple advice. I've tried to practice more walking meditation but I usually totally blow it. I mean, the opportunity is constantly there, but I somehow forget about it until the end of the day. This is a good reminder for me.
