what's everyone's opinions on Falun Gong. I just finished a job for a Chinese guy and he sent me a check in the mail along with a brochure on Falun Gong and a cash tip. Nice guy but he put a little note in there telling me to check it out

I don't think there is anything wrong with it, but the Chinese government has it listed as a "cult". I think that the government is afraid it will "undermine" it's authority.

That being said, they do "recruit" in a way for new members, but the practice itself seems harmless.

I found myself meditating on the beach in Hawaii with a middle-aged couple from China who happened go be followers of Falun Gong. They spoke of the Chinese prosecution of their religion in their homeland; very dramatically I might add. We seemed to share many Buddhist-like philosophies and fundamentals.

Beyond their gentle nature I really know very little about their beliefs and practices.

I spoke to a couple of Falun Gong followers. The way they talked about it, it didn't seem that different from Buddhism.

I don't think it is too different from Buddhism. I think it's more of a new religious movement than anything else.

It seems that the most controversial aspect of the FG teachings are its stances on homosexuality and interracial marriage. Nothing too uncommon from any conservative religious denomination.

    They are teaching chi kung.
However the beloved leader is a super chi channeller and only he can activate and empower your practice. Donations welcome. Head removal if not being used available.

Chi kung good. Cults not so good.

From what I've read, it has the usual cult problems of the founder insisting on absolute authority and it seems to me a hodgepodge of taoist superstitions mixed with generic Eastern guru philosophy and wrapped up as some revealed mystery religion. It's anti-science although most mystery religions and cults are. I'd say Falun Gong has a lot in common with Scientology in how the organization is structured.

Not to say the practice doesn't have benefits. If it didn't, there wouldn't be so many following it.
