If you choose to believe something that is yet unexperienced by you, then that is faith. If you choose to not believe something because you have not yet experienced it then that is just not knowing.
This came up because of the ever arising "what was the Buddha's word and what was not" question. A practitioner who meditates, confirms within their meditation, what ever they really need to know. A practitioner of a faith/devotional practice does the same with a faith/devotional practice.
Thinking that the not knowing of one practice is wrong compared with the other is just self centeredness.
