However, the gist of your post is clear. Here is a good site I found that spells out the basics (the Four Noble Truths, the Eightfold Path, Karma and Rebirth, Emptiness, etc.) very clearly and succinctly. It's The Big View. Leaves from the Buddha's Grove also has a lot of basic texts, both Mahayana and Theravadan, as well as some Zen and other writings.
