    LOL

    Ok, where shall I start...

My favourite pet is Molly, she's a pure-blood Parson's Long-Legged Jack-Russell Terrier and I got her when I was two. (I thought she was going to eat my toes LOL!)
I didn't like her until I was four though but now I know she's the bestest animal that ever did be! She sleeps alot of the time but she's really friendly to me. In the morning she always greats me with leap in her step and a wag in her tail :)
I'll continue in the morning! Good Night All!
(And to all those who don't live in the UK it's 9.43 PM)
    Joe :)

    Tokyo,

I am in love with Holly. :o I read her story elsewhere and it's always hard to imagine how animals like her could ever be called "unwanted." They always turn out to be the really special ones, that fully embody unconditional love. :)

    Richard,

My dogs a character - name's Blue, old black lab with grey highlights. A few facts:

    1. All bananas have a small peice at the end with his name on. Denying him this is a CRIME.

    2. He has an energy overdraft facility which he uses on particularly exciting walks. When he returns he goes into the corpse position for the rest of the week.

    3. He uses the groan with enormous subtlety. It can mean, 'i'm bored', 'get off' or 'the telly's too loud'.

    4. He is not afraid of strangers or fireworks but he is petrified of Wimbledon and TV shows with Dancing in.

    5. He somehow has the ability to change the length of his nose (???)

I love this thread! I'm smiling like a fool reading all your posts.

    Your pets are all beautiful!

I'm particularly fascinated with Mundus' rats and Rabbit's chinchilla. I've been around rats many times and used to live with a particularly brilliant white one who was saved from the lab by my roommate. But I don't think I've ever seen a chinchilla in real life before. I'd love to meet one and see if it liked having its chin scratched.

My cat Pinky goes crazy for chin scratching and drools while being scratched. It's adorable. He's lying on my bed as I write this. He's right in front of my crossed legs so I can't stretch them out. I'm trapped. He's a blond cat and looks pink in the sun.

My big orange tabby, Tom, is also on my bed. He's the alpha cat and he's sitting to my right watching me closely as I type this. His face is about 3 inches from mine and he's telepathically telling me he wants cuddles. So excuse me for a moment...

See, the cat always comes first. Whenever one of them comes to me I stop whatever I'm doing and cuddle them. It's one of the best ways they drag me back into the present moment. That's where they live so being with them means being fully present right now.

We have two more cats, Torcal and Daisy, and at some point I'll post their pics.

How do you survive? (I'm partly curious and partly looking for tips;))

    I know.

My allergist thought I was crazy to come and live here. But I came to help my mum nurse my dad back to health when he was suffering from heart failure and they had five cats at the time. There was no way I was going to ask them to get rid of the 5 beings that we're keeping them healthy and happy. I was also in love with the cats so I couldn't let them go either.

I have to take 3 different meds to control the allergy related asthma I get from cats (and horses and other animals). I take a corticosteroid inhaler, an over the counter anti-histamine, and I keep a rescue inhaler of salbutomal on hand for emergencies.

Even though my allergist thought I was crazy (he says the allergy is potentially life threatening) I've been here for 7 years and I've never suffered a major attack. In fact, the only hospital visit I ever had to make was before I was put on the corticosteroid inhaler.

I've always loved cats (and dogs and horses and all animals) but living with them and watching their behaviour closely has been one of the most worthwhile things I've ever done and now I never want to be away from them. They're important to me for so many reasons.

Wow! You must really care for them. When I'm older I'll have to do that if I want loads of different pets... Although hope my allergies will improve by then. My Great Aunt has four cats and once I spent a lot of time around them and I began to improve!:D

Brigid, I suggest trying the injections. My girlfriend has cats, so I started the injections in February, in anticipation of us moving in together. They've worked like gangbusters, and I didn't have any hayfever symptoms this Spring, too (for the first time in my life.)

Now that's impressive. Taking an unexpected line of wisdom there and sitting side by side with an allergy 'suffering' and saying 'i hear you but i hear the love of cats louder'. Brilliant.

I've heard of that happening, Joe. It works, from what I understand, kind of like a vaccine except you're not building anti-bodies but training your immune system to ignore the allergen through continual exposure to it. I think that's how it's supposed to work anyway. I was kind of hoping something like that would happen to me but it didn't. My immune system's probably like an old dog to whom you can't teach new tricks.

Wow! That's fantastic! I'm going to ask my regular doc about it when I see him at the beginning of December. Thanks, Fivebells!

Thank you, Blueface. I appreciate that very much especially since I've been made to feel bad about my decision to live with them, as if I was doing something harmful to myself for no reason. If those people could feel the connection and love and how much it fills one's mind with peace and joy maybe they'd understand. I've often thought part of the reason I haven't had a bad asthma attack in all this time is because of all the positivity running through my system because of the cats. They're my instant antidote for petty anger and frustration and they make me work much harder at being more patient, sensitive, and respectful, none of which are strong points.

And because everyone always asks... she's 100% all American, red-blooded dog. A mutt. A pound puppy. Either that, or she's a pure blooded Wimbledon Retriever - she seems to have a genetically coded need to have a tennis ball in her mouth at all times :)

Here are my two cats playing on top of kitchen cabinets..the big Siamese is Bartok, Destroyer of Worlds (he likes to knock stuff over and off of shelves/tables, especially for attention) and the smaller gingery one is Cosette, Devourer of Souls (she will eat just about anything not nailed down, with the exception of wasabi peas). Of course, I just call them Bartok and Cosette for short.
