What would you like to be reborn as?

edited May 2010 in General Banter
Just trying to start an interesting topic here, if rebirth is in fact true...what would you like to be reborn as? a human again? if so describe (gender, race, appearance, etc.)...a bird?, a bear?, maybe not even in this planet?

I know in Buddhism the main goal is to escape rebirth but just for fun, let her rip.

If I were to choose human, I would want to be born in a place where I could live more naturally and without so many distractions. Skin color (browner), gender: I like male but female might be interesting.

A human, of course. Only as a human do I have any shot at all at enlightenment.

I'd like to be human, but perhaps from a different background. Someone who has what he/she needs to get by. With a big great family/community support network. Filled withlife and love, untainted by western civilization. Pure, free and open. Oh and humble!

    Or a dolphin!

Yeah, definitely human. And male, just in case those Thai patriarch monks are right. And headed straight for the monastery. I wish that more than I've ever wished anything for myself in my whole life.

I just want it to end.

If rebirth is true I will accept whatever fate awaits. Do I have any other choice? If this life is not my first, it has been a pretty interesting run. Suffering has not been fun but I have learned quite a bit, especially much that I thought I knew was incorrect.

It distracts from the goal to speculate about future rebirth conditions, being that the goal is to reach the end of these rebirths. It becomes a fetter; craving for becoming. Rather, it already is a fetter and we have to learn to let it go.

That being said, of course being reborn as a human is the most favorable condition for the achievement of Nibbana. We shouldn't wish or expect for any particular nationality or set of attributes.

My bad. ;) I generally answer questions in a certain way since my own awakening experience and subsequent confidence in the teachings. I'm not such a formal person if you really know me, but sometimes I forget that the question isn't meant to be serious.

Flying is very cool. Been doing it since I was 18 (that's many years, if you're counting). My latest incarnation as a pilot is flying sailplanes. Absolutely the coolest! It's almost like meditating when you release from the tow plane and are plunged into utter silence, suspended in space. Here I am with a ****-eating grin on my face during my first solo flight in a glider last summer. And another shot looking out over the instrument panel. It doesn't get any better than this in this lifetime! :)

The USAF wouldn't let me fly, period. They said I had mitral valve prolapse, which I didn't then and never did. After they'd promised me a job as a pilot and even cut orders for me to go to pilot training. But I'm so glad it worked out that way now!

Anyone who finds him or herself in beautiful southwest Virginia, give me a shout. I'd be happy to take you for a ride! :)

They wouldn't let me be a pilot because I wore glasses, which was OK because I didn't really want to be a pilot, but it was fun flying. Especially the time when I got to ride up in the cockpit of a C-130 coming in for a landing in Japan through a cloud bank at sunset and breaking through the clouds right over Mt. Fuji, which was bathed in this red-orange light. Wow!

I'd like to be a human again, because that's the only way I'd get to practice the Dhamma and reach enlightenment. But if that can't be, then I'd choose to be a beautiful, free, majestic bird, like an eagle. (Hope I don't get hunted and stuffed tho. haha).
